I suppose there are some games that are pretty friendly to new players. Guild Wars 2 comes to mind. But for the most part, in my experience, the main thing that ruins many online games are other players.

I guess that reflects life, in a sense. The creator makes a beautiful world to explore, and then it's ruined by other people who don't respect the setting or the other players….
