Fairy Gold
Conned on April 26, 2007
This is actually the 2nd piece of the series…
Well It was influenced by the book “Johnathen strange and Mr.Norrel” a crazy book that must have been 600+ pages. I almost died reading it becuase the first 500 pages was the author setting the background but the ending was good :) Very cool/strange fictional story about a magic movement in England. Quite a good idea actually…
Anyways! Story breakdown:
The Fairy king really likes the black servant because he has an air of royalty and so he believes he must have been royalty in the country he was taken from. Well because he likes him he constantly sends him Fairy riches.
In this part of the story the Fairy King sends Fairy Gold to the lady who likes the black servant. The gold naturally has twisted magical properties: When you look at someone in the light of the Gold you see the opposite of their character.
The idea of this painting is that you have a constrast in light; Gold and candle light. The woman and the servant look Greedy and sceming whilst the guy that works in that corner shop under the candle light looks supprised at their faces.
Interesting places to look at: Shadows and light on the ceiling, the black servant's face: I can paint black people :P

X0 Thank you! Yeah, it's been explained to me that the art is good, but the pieces mean so much more when they are explained. It's good that it's pointed out because I already understand it so I guess I always assume that everyone else feels the same way about it without knowing the story. Illustrational pieces :) Thanks for dropping by :D

That's brilliant. I love the long explanation of the background of the piece as well., makes it all the more special and interesting. The colours, head shapes and expressions alone are pretty amazing though!

With Photoshop I can create a layer over it and just draw on top :D Then you just make it look like they belong there :)

I've got this book at home, unread on a shelf. I keep meaning to read it but I buy books too frequently. Working in a bookshop doesn't help! Love this piece!

Wasn't the black guy the guy who met the elf guy and he said they were both handsome and invited him to his weird elf paaartaay?
