Chapter 4 - Page 14
DAJB on Jan. 6, 2008
Wooo! The end of Chapter 4 and Sunil finally gets his answer! (You can read more about Boo's answer in this forum thread.) So, Chapter 5 is up next and guess what … we've managed to put the right date on the pages this time. Double-wooo!
Reminder: Oh and, if you missed it on Friday, we added a new page to the BVC Scrap Book here at DD. But don't go if you're squeamish … it's got people being eaten and stuff!

Hey, whose in charge in that house? Who wears the battle-armour?! Yeah, that's what I thought. Loving the expressions once again.

JMT: Aaaw, you guys ...!
jmt at 8:52PM, Jan. 9, 2008
your take on secret identities is very post modern. Like it is a crutch for the people in power instead of the ones doing the dirty work. I really think that is something to think about. Thank you for the insight. That might be a whole comic right there in that little idea. You are a brilliant limey.

Space: Well, it's the last tea until Chapter 7, so it was only polite to make sure everyone had a cup before we left! JNP: Thanks. You've met our main trio now (well, quartet, including Stan!) so who knows? Maybe we'll see some of those plot threads start to converge now ... (Just maybe!)
spacehamster at 1:37PM, Jan. 8, 2008
Nice closer. You had to go out with a cup of tea, huh. Heh. Good stuff indeed, looking forward to the next chapter!
JustNoPoint at 8:06AM, Jan. 8, 2008
I prefer my tea cold actually =P I really like this group of individuals. You are really good at "casting" for sure! The messages on the tv haunt me, I must know more!

Alana: No argument there. Well, maybe from Joyce, but certainly not from me! ;-) Stig: My take on secret identities: To start with they were supposed to be for the heroes' benefit, enabling them to live a normal "civilian" life. Then (perhaps because that didn't seem terribly heroic), DC and Marvel both began spinning the line that they were important to protect the heroes' friends and families. I think many in DC and Marvel possibly even believe that (after all, it's the premise for the entire plot of Identity Crisis!) It seems to me, however, that the real reason for having a secret identity is because most of the actions of a super hero are criminal. If Gordon wasn't able to at least pretend he didn't know who Batman was, he'd have had to lock up Bruce Wayne years ago!
alanajoli at 7:17PM, Jan. 7, 2008
Methinks Joyce is just a naturally high-strung individual. (In which case comparisons to Giles below still stand!)
Stig Hemmer at 3:08PM, Jan. 7, 2008
I don't know how important a secret identity would be... Boo herself probably doesn't need it, but the abuse centre probably doesn't want any attention.
DAJB at 3:03PM, Jan. 7, 2008
T: Really? They scare me to death! Sky: Maureen's secret recipe ... ;-) Nepath/Rutger: Thanks, guys!
_T_ at 2:37PM, Jan. 7, 2008
This is so awesome! That chick is really cool. I like tough chicks...
skyangel at 2:29PM, Jan. 7, 2008
There's something in that tea, I'm sure of it!!!!

Beretta: Thanks, MrB! Molly: Heeey - we missed you! Welcome back! (I see Santa brought you a pretty new avatar.) And, yes, Boo is darn cool! Trevor: Oh, you needn't worry about that. At least not yet! Midge: Aaw, she's just an old mother hen, really! Ignore her clucking! Adam: Careful ... she still knows that "butterfingers" manoeuvre! (And, yeah, those bulletins are getting pretty spooky!) JMT: Heh - now, I just know that's Rex talking and, if he doesn't behave, I'm telling Gretchen!
Molly Loves the KLF at 10:06AM, Jan. 7, 2008
ARGH I MISSED SO MUCH. :( Boo is so cool. :D TEA. And BBC. YAY
trevoramueller at 10:05AM, Jan. 7, 2008
I wonder how the "mystery virus" will play into the story.
TheMidge28 at 10:02AM, Jan. 7, 2008
Joyce is a little uptight! She suspects that Sunil will blabber all this to the media and the kids at school I bet. I wonder why she is so uptight about though...hmmm.
Adam Black at 7:36AM, Jan. 7, 2008
Jeez, Joyce, let the pretty lady talk! :) Those BBC bulletins are makin' me nervous.
jmt at 7:12AM, Jan. 7, 2008
there is nothing wrong with being a rabid misogynist. he-he-he
DAJB at 6:46AM, Jan. 7, 2008
Popen: Well, if you build a community peopled almost exclusively by women who've been mistreated, you are going to get a few extreme characters. Joyce, for example, would probably be writing a blog (if she was 20 years younger!) shouting that every comic cover and Mary-Jane statuette had been made by rabid misogynists. (Fortunately, she has Boo to keep her in check and explain the difference between real feminism and prudish misandry!) (Oooh, lots of long words!) ;-) Harry/one: Thanks, both!
popenfresh at 6:22AM, Jan. 7, 2008
Oh no, his tea! ^^ I don't know why but all these women give me the feeling the women's rights movement is at it again. xD
one_am at 5:18AM, Jan. 7, 2008
very cool.
harryq at 4:46AM, Jan. 7, 2008
So consistently professional! A tip of the hat to the Shade team. Bravo!

Tantz: It seems Abt is brewing up right now. Let's all meet up at his place for a cuppa! And, yeah - Joyce is nothing if not determined! Abt: You just go right ahead and keep on trying to make those connections ... ;-) We'll be explaining exactly why Doug has retired from active service (as it were) later in the book. But don't hold your breath - it's not until much later! With Boo and the Shaman it's more implicit but - when you do find out about Doug - I don't think you'll find it too hard to draw comparisons. Peipei: Who? Joyce? She's just worried about Boo revealing her secret identity. I suppose you could compare her attitude to the way Giles is concerned with protecting Buffy's identity as the Slayer, more than Buffy is. (Now there's a comparison I hadn't thought of before!)
Tantz_Aerine at 2:47AM, Jan. 7, 2008
I could use a cup myself now :) I love it how Joyce keeps trying to arrest the lecture Ellie is giving.
Abt_Nihil at 2:41AM, Jan. 7, 2008
Guess what? I'm drinking hot tea right now! Cheers! Anyway, that BBC virus must be part of a big conspiracy... hmmm maybe the virus was in that rock from the museum? Haha, just making simple connections... I'm curious if there's more to these heroes' retirement (and what that is)... their reclusiveness... it's not just that the British keep a lower profile than the Americans, right? ;-)
