Chapter 5 - Page 06
DAJB on Jan. 27, 2008
Hooray! I've worked out how to move the Comments “input box” above the Comments!
Thanks to Rutger for (very diplomatically!) pointing out how much of a pain it had become to scroll to the bottom these days! (Do continue to read everyone else's input, though. We've got some rather clever people commenting here!)
Reminder: Oh, and if you missed it at the weekend, check out the BVC Scrap Book here at DD. We've just started serialising pages from The House That Drac Built - a short comic I made many decades ago, back when I was about fifteen (sixteen, tops!) Keep your eyes peeled - I'll be adding a new page to that every day this week!

Comedien: Tune in tomorrow - same Shades time; same Shades channel! SciFi: I thought this might have been a place where Harsho had put in a page break where I didn't originally have one ... so I've gone back and checked the script for you. It seems, you're right - it wasn't Harsho. I did do this on purpose!
Comedian at 11:37AM, Jan. 29, 2008
Ohoh.... Famous last Words. Where is the Attacker ?
scifiwim at 7:17AM, Jan. 29, 2008
... the next star for Gladiator 2? no? Oh well... Man you did that on purpose! Sigh... Oh Patience where art thou?
DAJB at 11:26PM, Jan. 28, 2008
JMT/JNP: Okay, that's it - I'm going to start marketing those chairs! T: Thanks! JNP: Heh - good luck with that! In one fight (at the end of Chapter 7) I ended up replacing virtually every one of the lines from my first-draft! P.S. Stan's appearance in Off Hours is now officially fan art, both at my own website and at Graphic Smash.

Sweet I like the spider chair.
JustNoPoint at 6:10PM, Jan. 28, 2008
Oh I must try and think of ways to get people talking more in my upcoming brawls. Though it really fits her, not everyone talks or has tea in the background. So I look forward to see all the clever ways you attempt to keep fighting and character building together as this progresses. Then again, with the cast you have assembled I could see every character carrying on conversations as they fight. Curse you DAJB! =p That spider chair is sweet!

Alana: Why thank you Ms Joli. But despite the (very welcome!) flattery I'm still not making any promises on the clifff-hanger front! Space: Stay tuned - the first big unravelling is coming up very soon now ...! Albone: A super hero story without masks?! Go and stand in the corner until lunch time! Rutger: ;-) Molly: Heh - it's really not that big a mystery. I bet you clever guys could guess it real easy!
alanajoli at 11:00AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Many decades? You're still lookin' good, DAJB! And another cliffhanger? Tell me you're not going to make a habit of this! We'll keep coming back... :) (Only frustrated because now I *really* want to know what's going on!)
spacehamster at 10:47AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Ah. De plot, she thicken.
albone at 10:25AM, Jan. 28, 2008
I think everyone would get along better if NO ONE was wearing a mask. Y'know? Masks make people nervous. Or a chair with spider legs that can climb. And spider legs aren't going to help if she runs you through with a spear. Hopefully, that jetpack kicks in. :P
Rutger at 10:25AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Oh hey, diplomacy. Well, it does say that, according to the Chinese horoscope, the Rat is a very diplomatic person. Also a coward, but that's besides the point. Glad to be of service, in any case! O7
Molly Loves the KLF at 10:14AM, Jan. 28, 2008
D: HE'S JUST ABOUT TO SAY ITTT!! Go on masked man!!

Symon: Welcome to Shades! And thanks for taking the time to leave comments on so many of the archive pages. Much appreciated! I think everything you asked along the way has been answered by subsequent pages but, if there's anything you're still wondering about, do ask it again here or in the Forum. I should pick it up! Trevor: Heh - I think she's managing to do that pretty well already! Armando: Hmmm - seems popular that chair. Perhaps I should give up this comicking lark and start manufacturing octopedal furnishings ...!
SympleSymon at 9:39AM, Jan. 28, 2008
...looking for tacos and candy? A worthy mission, that.
trevoramueller at 9:23AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Yeah, kick his ass, seabass!
armandoB at 7:53AM, Jan. 28, 2008
that chair is kickarse

Tantz: Actually, this was a major consideration for the style of the comic. I knew I wanted conversation during fight sequences (I feel robbed if I buy a comic and 20 of the 28 pages just have two guys pummeling each other with no plot or character development!) but, at the same time, I didn't want lots of corny one-liners as the characters traded "clever" insults. Instead, I tried to allow conversation, but to keep it relevant to what was going on. (Except for Boo who, as in most things, ignored what I wanted and wrote her own rules as she went along!) Midge: See the response to DocShadow and Peipei re the chair design. And as for these guys intentions ... aaaw, we'll be telling you soon enough! cs3: Heh - becoming a trademark of mine, that! one: After she's doled out a bit of payback for Stan, she just might ...! ;-)
Tantz_Aerine at 7:12AM, Jan. 28, 2008
...a way not to get smacked more before we talk to you. XD Sorry, I just can't stop filling in those sentences. Love the whole talk-while-you-fight sequence here. Very super hero-ish. :)
TheMidge28 at 7:03AM, Jan. 28, 2008
that spider chair is sweet...reminds me of Mojo from Marvel. So these guys might be good after all...hmmm...
cs3ink at 5:20AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Oh, cliffhanger!
one_am at 5:19AM, Jan. 28, 2008
why doesn't she just listen to them!? haha.
DAJB at 4:50AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Harry: I think you mean every page needs a keeper ...! ;-) DocShadow/Peipei: Heh - for reasons that will become more apparent later, I really wanted the machinery these guys are using to be a little more "Heath Robinson". Unfortunately, if you go too far down that route, it all looks like it's about to fall apart! I think the designs we settled on strike a reasonable balance between outlandish functionality and amateurishness. (Okay, so I think I just made that word up!)
harryq at 4:33AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Jeez, every page is a keeper!
Peipei at 3:33AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Oooo this guy has some neat tools there :3 I guess he was expecting to get knocked around a bit once he caught up with Boo xD
Doctor Shadow at 3:12AM, Jan. 28, 2008
Nice man, love that spider chair lol...wicked stuff once again!
