And here's P.O.D. - short for “Escape Pod” - back when he was still a dashing young ship. P.O.D. was created specifically by Kip to evacuate his family - because Kip was in the know that bad things were going to happen sooner rather than later.

Being in the know doesn't mean that you know when it's going down, though. So, even Kip was taken by surprise when the destruction actually happened!
