Chapter 3 page 16
j giar on Sept. 29, 2008
Yes…I know. I'm late. My apologies. No excuses other than getting wrapped up in other things. Well that and not being able to get onto the Duck for almost a week with all the bugs.
So this page…Other than the obvious graphic nature of the page, I tried to make it uneasy in it's design. Originally the first panel was flipped. So the panel sat upright same as panel 3. Which when you looked at the page…well it made the first panel redundant. So to give the reader a more uneasy feeling I took the panel and literally cut it out and flipped it upside down. Thinking, nothing would be more unsettling than not being able to see the panel right side up. You most certainly can't turn your monitor upside down….That and it gave the entire page the spinning feeling as we spin around from each panel to arrive at panel 3. Don't know if that worked..but that was the intention.
So there things in the works for SoulDriver…big changes. Changes that will be for the better…that are necessary. I'll let you knwo when they are afoot. As always comments…opinions..and the lot are appreciated. See ya soon. Jim

Armando- Much obliged for for the number "5"! CORTESNYC- You have no idea what a pain it was to get photo reference....There's a great morbid joke somewhere in that statement...just don't know where. Thanks for the kudos. Jim

Oh, don't worry Jim, I'm not planning to relaxe. I'm practically wrapped in plastic (but not dead) for as long as those gloves stay there. I'll keep hanging around even if I can't update Lost, because this looks like it could go stranger places yet.

Midge- As much as I'd like to take the credit for it, I actually took the idea from film and oddly enough video games. Off the top of my head ,the film "Signs". The scene with Joaquins watching t.v. in the closet. And as he tries to see the footage of the alien the kids are in the way. That uncomfortable..uneasy feeling. Also I've caught myself many a times playing Doom3 and other shooter games and I literally, physically try to peek around the corner. So glad it came across in this finished page. Always a pleasure Mister Midge. Jim

Fantastic job Jim! I totally get that spinning feeling from this scene. Great job with the camera work if you will with panel and layout with this reveal.

Sloo- Thanks man...incredible is quite a lofty word. How the hell am I supposed to top that? See if you used a word like...hhmmmmm... like mediocre, then I can only go up from there. Thanks for the comment. Jim

Damn, this in incredible!

Trev- Organs?...details? It's funny that all that time in anatomy class and I discovered I paid more attention to muscles and tendons than I did organs...So I spent a lot of time looking things up. Glad you likey...and your avatar is not as mesmerizing as Auroras. Don't take it to hard. =) Corey- Yeah, it made a huge difference. As I said the page started out as a single splash image..but I wanted more. Just goes to show the importance of roughs. Thanks for the comments as always. Sysli- We celebrate Halloween early at our house. And this has been building up to this page. My little Halloween gift to you...And things will continue to escalate from here...So don't put away those drop cloths. Sen- Sure amigo! Just go back to chapter one, in the park...well I don't mean you go to the park. Of course unless you want to..Leaves will be changing here soon..Am I babbling? CDA- Thanks for the Fiver and stoppin' in. Jim

Damn, Nice! Though, forgive my memory, I forget who Rome was. That is, if he's been introduced yet. He seems familiar. Anyway, WHAT A TWEEST!

Ooo, nice and creepy, just like I said I thought it would be! And oy, that can't be healthy (I know saying that is redundant, but my mind insisted). Organs, glorious organs, always good for a prediction. And at least the damned gloves make sense again. Mmm, yeah, the bugs have been quite agressive lately. Hopefully they'll calm down soon, it's getting a bit frustrating (not to mention my recent computerproblems, but I whine enough about them oven on Lost and that's not really a bugissue anyway). And changes you say? Well, as long as there's still chairs to sit comfily in and a good show, then I won't worry. As always a joy to see and hear from you, and totally worth the wait Jim. Keep at it as always.

Nice anatomy... flipping that first panel... you are quite ingenious sir... as I am sure it made a big difference in the feeling of this page. If it was the same direction as the 2nd one, it would have been great, this is just awesome!!! Great job as always Jim! how can this get any better?!?!?!? lookin forward to the changes regardless!
trevoramueller at 7:48AM, Sept. 30, 2008
Nice job on the spinning introduction to the page - the panels flowing around in a spin. I also really like the level of detail that you put into the organs. Very well done. Just another reason why yours is one of the better comics on this site.

Aurora- Hello there..And please accept my humble apologies. Things can get a wee bit messy around here at times. But I did warn everyone about bringing drop cloths. Thanks for stoppin' by and the "5"...And that has got to be one of the most mesmerizing avatars EVER! Jim
Aurora Moon at 7:09AM, Sept. 30, 2008
ugh, remind me not to eat while I'm reading your comic. :p
j giar at 5:49AM, Sept. 30, 2008
Chip- Thanks. Wasn't sure if it did. Originally the page was to be just a big splash of panel 3...but that seemed the easy way out..a cheap pay off for the reader. I wanted to do a lead up sequence...So this was the result. Glad you liked it..Hope things are well. Jim

The rotating shot is indeed very unsettling. Sorta simulates vertigo. You, sir, are amazing.
