Progress Report (Did I say Holiday Season?!)

Happy June, space adventurers! You probably noticed that I blew past my own imposed deadline! Sorry about that.

If you're new here… HI! I'm Neil. I'm the guy who published a comic here on The Duck a long, long time ago called Dasien. It was a silly superhero romp. It was a series about a beautiful blonde heroine with nigh invulnerability who took on the evil forces of… uh… evil, and looked really hot doing it in her red (and then black) leggy leotard. And then I stopped doing it because I broke the Moonlighting principle. (Remember what killed Moonlighting? That's what I did. I'm sorry.)

So anyway, Space Honeys is my reboot/retooling of Dasien, taking a character whose powers and concepts were already based in sci-fi, and putting her into an actual sci-fi setting. Her best buddy Parker Lynn Bailey, who was the scene-stealing (and story-stealing) second banana from the old comic, will also be part of Space Honeys as the team leader and co-star. In this new series, Parker is galaxy-class detective with neural implants giving her a more cyberpunk edge to complement Dasien's raw power. I know, nothing extraordinary so far, but we're just getting started.

What Space Honeys will be is a sci-fi comedy romp in which two girls get in all sorts of trouble as they hunt and encounter smugglers, ne'er do'ells, cyborg assassins, and guys named Wilhelm. As members of the Freelancer Guild, Parker and Dasien specialize in bounty-hunting, espionage, and infiltration.

One is brains, the other is brawn. They've got each other's back ‘til the job is done.

Progress on the series has been… slow. My time has been a bit divided, and I’ve actually missed several weeks and even months due to other obligations. I'm still really excited about this upcoming series and I hope to have some really juicy previews soon.

The art style is a jump for me. I'm proud of the way the new art is coming together. It needs more time before I feel good about showing it, though. For now, here's just a peek at what's coming.

Space Honeys is my tribute to classic 80s/90s sci-fi anime, inspired by Crusher Joe, Gal Force, Dirty Pair, Macross, and Project A-Ko. With this series, I want to combine all of the wacky things I love about the old days of Japanese sci-fi with my own signature sense of catty girl humor.
