I do have a scanner, and have done several pieces with pencil. I just found drawing with a mouse to be far less troublesome. Hard Knux, my last comic was done on paper with a pencil, then uploaded, cleaned up, and colored. I had to keep making copies of my comic frame, then I lost it...which meant that I'd have to make a new one, and the rest of the comics would most likely not be the same size. I have a printer...the thing that holds the paper broke off, and I haven't found the drivers for it again, yet. I really haven't felt a need to print. Otherwise, I could probably print out my frame. But, I think I'll keep StickFoxes strictly digital.
I understand you use a mouse to draw, but who says you cant use a mouse AND a pencil? Get yourself a scanner, and import the artwork into either GIMP or Photoshop. Then simply make a layer above it and do as you always do. As for drawing in three dimensions, its gonna take you some time (Although you seem to have it down good already). I've been drawing for nearly 5 years now and I'm still getting the hang of it. One tool you might want to invest in though would be a wacom tablet. Expensive as hell, but they are soooo worth it.
Take your time, practice, and you will get better. And who knows, you may get on Yerf.com before your know it.
Thanks. Well, I still have trouble sometimes. How do I put this...the perspective thing..I have trouble drawing in three dimensions accurately. I'm okay at headshots, but I sometimes have trouble keeping the rest of the body in perspective. Because of this, it's gonna be difficult to get on Yerf.com. This year, I traded my pencil for a mouse, and hope that I get as good with the mouse (hopefully better) as I was with the pencil.
Also, like my last comic, some strips look good, other's, not so. But, oh well. Consistancy comes through practice, and drawing everyday is surely practice enough. And Hard Knux, my last comic, was semi-daily(MWF), not daily like this one.
For the first time, StickFoxes has somewhat of a storyline....I know...I'm choking over it. A story killed my last comic, but how do you really draw someone into a comic without some sort of basis in storytelling? I admit, it was lazy of me to just draw glowing eyes in the last panel...I think I more than made up for it in tomorrow's comic.
