Drawing hands again. -_- This conversation/scene was a lot of fun for me. I'm not sure why. They are somewhat bland characters, but they have a realness I can't quite explain.
This was somewhat inspired by a weird train of thought I had when looking at my hands one day. They have a lot of small scars. The weird thing is that I have no clue where I got most of them. I have one rougher-edged one I pondered over until I remembered was from my dog yanking a leash and smashed my hand into a brink wall. In short, I honestly do not know the back of my hand like the back of my hand. (And I'm relatively sure Sherlock Holmes could tell my life story with one handshake.)

Hands... without a doubt the hardest thing to draw!! It's the angle the hand takes... combined with the angles all the finger joints take!! Anyway, nice topdown view here!!

Thanks! I had to use two photos for reference (got no one else to hold the camera).

And hands? Like everything break it down into basic shapes. An oval or rhombus with a bunch of sticks coming out. Think of fingers as three oval balls strung together.

I can't even draw ovals in perspective. XD I am very bad at art. XD When I try to learn by conventional means, I just can't get it. My only success has been to just keep drawing all the things I suck at until I suck less.

Ovals and shapes in perspective handles that. But then I'm constantly using references myself. My hands are bony enough that I see the basic shapes easily. 😁

Basic shapes aren't a problem for me. I can't do foreshortening and angles. My work-around is using photo references. If I draw from references enough, it eventually imprints on me to "come naturally."

Most of my scars are on the front of the hands not the back. And my face. Lots of small scars on the face.

I have very few on my palms. Plenty on the arms and legs (from falls and scrapes and a lot of fly/tick bites).

You draw hands the same way I do.

I take pictures of my hands and draw that. All characters have my hands. XD

Hek I used to have multiple lacerations all the time when we had the kitten. She loved to play. And attack.

My cat doesn't scratch, but I have a handful (or harmful) of pet rats, and those little nails don't retract.
