To the pre-modern sort a modern doctor looks like a magician. In a world without science a scientist could be considered a sorcerer. A sorceress can see the very small and the very large, so they aid clerics in mapping the heavens and cataloging the odd tiny “spirits” called germs that cause illness. They've developed a pain killer from tree bark and a mold that cures infections. They along with the priestesses of Nella and Minna; the goddesses of women, childbirth and home; provide health care for women like prenatal care, birth control and childbirth.
Read up on pre-modern illness and one gets the distinct impression that women were the ones who were always sick and dying. So in a culture with strong female deities and magic, women's health would be a foremost concern. Women are the givers of life. They are sacred. This is the world of God the Mother. To a point. Men are still arrogant pigs and have a tendency to think they're in charge and to treat women like possessions and objects. Life is brutal, nasty and short but not nearly so bad as it is in our world. But Germ theory, X-rays and aspirin doesn't make for long life indulged in idleness without the Agricultural and Industrial Revolutions and this world isn't there yet.
As Gandalf was fond of saying “Don't meddle in the affairs of wizards for they are subtle and quick to anger” The same is true of sorceresses. They live to serve but after a long day they'd like a little “me” or “us” time without giggling girls going on about intimacy.
And who is that guy in the blue-green robe who keeps showing up in the background? An inside joke. It's my Army of Darkness Ash figure. :D
Third shout out here, for the amazing costumes. The outfits on these ladies seem a more "fantastical" than the more "realistic" or "down-to-earth" clothes on the other dudes.
I second what Kimluster is saying, about these fantastic wardrobes you put together for this story. it must be endless hours of work to make this comic
It was kind of fun playing dress-up but it got tedious fast. And then watching the pile of clothes dwindle and knowing there were still a dozen extras to clothe.
These wardrobes are so cool!! Now who is calling Searsha...?! What you said about Sorcery - makes me very glad I didn't live in pre-modern times in our world!!

So they have a mold that cures infections, you say? Hopefully they don't end up with a "mold resistant" bacteria outbreak! Those are no fun.

And worse, heal spells are not specific enough to stop infection . A practitioner has to have a proper diagnoses or even magic won't work.

Yeah, the fact that any complication in pregnancy or delivery was usually fatal for the mother. Caesarian section was essentially murder. Tough times.
