Hold on a minute, people in this world speak different languages and have tell-tale accents? Doesn't everyone speak Common?
Um, no. Originally the dialogue was in different fonts for the different languages but they were hard to read and I lost a couple of the fonts along the way, so it's all in zud juice. (Thank you El Cid for turning me on to that font!) I mean a unical old-fashioned font would be so cool, but so hard to read and re-size and the kerning just isn't made for speech balloons. Why did I go with oval balloons for this comic? Ugh. They take up so much space if people are actually going to have a conversation! And I've already reduced the size of the font three times in the comic. But it's still readable.
— To continue with the original point; there are lots of languages spoken in the world. Some of them are related and nearly mutually understandable (like Italian, Spanish and Portuguese are) Or at least knowing one it's really easy to learn the next. Searsha has a talent for languages and knows at least six or seven. Aleeka speaks at least four including her native eastern tongue. Her accent is noticeably different from Norse. In fact, a cut balloon had her thinking she could go to the camp as well, but that Searsha wouldn't want her around. Searsha can be intimidating that way.
— The orange-yellow tinge to the panels is supposed to indicate sunset and is not a problem with my computer's color settings.
Sure, I'm having the 'balloon issue' too XD. Accents are a real issue for foreigners, even if they look like natives. I've noticed the tinge and looks excellent :D
Very vibrant page!! And cool touch with the accents! Makes the story feel even more alive and true...!! Okay, guy, so you wear a Bear Shirt - you can still cook!!! I read neat fantasy novels a while back, Bard Series by Keith Taylor... It had some pretty good depictions of Berserkers in it!!
Our folks who spoke Spanish and Italian didn't do well when we were in Lisbon. Probably our American accents. I didn't even try, just made sure to be polite as hell.
Portuguese like to pretend they don't understand Spanish. When your big neighbor tends to totally take you over every couple of centuries, you get stubborn like that.

"Have axe, will travel." That's the Varangian Guard's motto, isn't it!
