Lots of shadow and shading, sharp contrasted highlights and a sepia tone to indicate a flashback. This is how a Gomlar princess came to be in a band of Vikings. Now why is Aleeka reflecting on this? Searsha. It's been building very quietly and slowly but it has been there.
Remember though stretching out to 85 pages this is all happening in one day. The battle was from the afternoon to just before sundown. The spider fight was just after sundown. The camp revels mostly take place in early evening with the past few scenes being in the aftermath. We're getting into the wee hours of the morning.
After finishing the original script I started work on a series of sequels. One went into Aleeka's backstory. So that it wouldn't seem to come out of nowhere I penned a couple of insert scenes to hint at it.
(aside) I read a book once, that suggested that true self-reflection (seeing and hearing yourself in your own mind as you think) is much more a modern phenomenon than we realize; it was only rudimentary even just a few millennia ago, and that the nascent versions of it seemed like 'voices in the head', which people took to be the Gods talking to them...! The notion accounts for much of the myth and behaviour of people back in classical and earlier times... I don't buy it all that much, but surely was intriguing reading (trying to remember the name of the dang book...)
The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind. By Juilian Jaynes. Too much wild speculation based on too little evidence. He also mostly ignores older Bronze age Egyptian and Hittite correspondence while highlighting narrative poems and religious texts.
I recall reading some of the Greek myths, and sometimes the Gods would speak to mortals, or even control them. When said mortal would relate this to others, it was often accepted with a nod. Such things made perfect sense - it was how the world worked!! This rings very much like that (and if the Gods are real, this it is...)
A farmer or day laborer's days were often constant and tedious drudgery. But that wouldn't make for a very compelling story. "How can you tell he's king?" "He doesn't have shit all over him." And thats one reason the story is usually about him. ;)
Always gotta worry about people who listen to voices in their head. At least this time, they didn't tell her to drown her children in the bathtub or shun caffeinated drinks.
This is a fantasy story; it really WAS her father speaking from Valhalla. In fantasy stories there are no voices in your head, they're all spirits and demons whispering in your ear.

Lately the pages feel more like a film, Very cool. I think everyone lived a hectic life in the old days unless they died young

Wonder how the story might have turned out if she had decided to be a lumberjack?

She's a lumberjack and she's okay.
