Umlauts are always nice to make your band sound TOUGH and GERMANIC. The first use of umlauts for reasons other than pronunciation was the amazing band Amon Düül II, and after that BOC and Sabbath did it, and following them were Motorhead and Motley Crue, and here we are today. Hawkwind, another excellent band, also used the little circly things above the A (å. And then there's Magma, who created an ENTIRE LANGUAGE, with umlauts aplenty, and put the album titles, song titles, and lyrics in this made-up language. Well, just flaunting my prog rock obsession a bit. I'll shut up now.

@4bit; don't forget cheesy mythology, stupid outfits, and every negative stereotype metal has to offer! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manowar

I'm German, and for me it's so much fun to mispronounce the band names.

ah the history of metal... now it just needs battle axes!

how's it offensive? You're not in a metal band, and the umlauts they use are almost always gratuitous.

I find this slightly offensive, but oh well, it is kinda funny, heh heh.
