Star Strip page 38

The Surprise docks with the Keep it Simple. The bridge scene here was not in the script and was added in true sci-fi fashion to show ships moving in space and docking. If you got the special effects you got to show off those special effects. As I go through the shooting the Surprise's crew have acquired names if only so I know who they are. In an inside joke some figures used in Attack of the Robofemoids retain the name from that comic. That busty black haired helmsmen remains Rusen. They say that with all the billions of people everyone has their twin somewhere. Since I postulate trillions of humans in the galaxy that possibility expands quite a bit.
This is Star Trek. Outside of Klingons bleeding Pepto bismol (ST:6 the Undiscovered Country) there are no blood baths in Star Trek. Speaking of bloodbaths I'm working on a phaser shoot-out and it has always amazed me how rare it is to actually hit, let alone injure what you shoot at. Either that or the weapons are ineffective for some reason. Practically the only time it really worked was shooting the knight in "Shore Leave with Sulu's revolver.
If anyone cares the away team is Engineer midshipman Chekov, Petty Officer third class Celeste, Doctor Rush, Science midshipman Hakufu, Lieutenant Eomer, Lieutenant Bulloch, Aura and Lieutenant Donagh. Chekov is the same figure from Attack of the Robofemoids. Hakufu, Eomer and Donagh are named for who the figures remind me of. Hakufu Sonsaku from Ikkitousen, Eomer from LOTR and Donagh O'Malley an actor from the Sharpe series.

The exterior shots help to establish what's going on; glad you included them!

Don't worry about the uniforms not matching. Makes it more realistic. The 20 years I spent in the navy, they were always switching, phasing in or out, adding new, etc uniforms. If there is one thing about naval uniforms, they are always changing. Star Trek appears to follow this TOS, the movies, each of the series. Although it was for different reasons in real life (marketing etc).

A bit like a lamprey with a shark as she lines up alongside. Great visuals.

Is it my dirty mind or does that ship look phallic on the view screen in panel one?
El Cid at 8:12PM, Nov. 10, 2014
Okay, that explains the uniform thing. Because I was pretty sure I remembered William Shatner used to wear a gold uniform, but Patrick Stewart had a red one. I couldn't tell if that symbolized something, or if there was any thought put into any of it (which, in a sci-fi series, there seems to always be a lot of thought put into EVERYTHING)

Cosmic shots look great in this comic. Nice docking.

Aura wears an Aordian duty uniform with Aordian rank insignia with the Star Fleet insignia to show her branch. Three stripes in the Aordian fleet is the same rank as one and half stripes in Star Fleet; a lieutenant commander. Military rank insignia is crazy confusing like that.

And some Trekkie minutiae and nonsense: The colors on ST:TOS were red for engineering/support, blue for sciences and yellow-gold for command and staff. For Next Generation they flipped the red and gold to alleviate the inferiority and expendability of being "red-shirted". I'm passing off my inability to get matching uniforms by saying that this Star Fleet isn't well supplied and has a variety of vendors that don't match colors or cut very well. For the story Midshipmen have collars the same color as the shirt with white rank stripes, officers have the black collar with gold or silver rank stripes and enlisted wear the jumpsuits with sleeve insignia. A blooper: Eomer is a Lieutenant but I forgot to edit out the second stripe on his sleeve.

I have had the hardest time finding this. It isn't on your profile page...I'm so confused!!! Great page, tho!

Sooo many characters! I never followed Star Trek closely, but just wondered: do all the different colored uniforms mean anything? Like the blue uniforms are medical staff and the yellow ones are for maintenance/engineering?

how about a no blood bath, no blood but lots of boobies?
KimLuster at 7:36AM, Nov. 10, 2014
No! Nobody's gonna die - Ensign Smith isn't there! Another A+ page!
fallopiancrusader at 7:11AM, Nov. 10, 2014
I'm still thinking a bloodbath might be a possibility, considering how many crew-members are wearing red shirts. I like the guy with the blonde dreadlocks.
