Star Strip page 130
bravo1102 on Aug. 20, 2015
Just an insert page to show another fight. I wanted each battle to have at least a page. Originally this was page 132 but I moved it up because it really can be anywhere in the mix. It is all happening simultaneously. Cadet Hakufu is named for the idiot protagonist of Ikkitousen because the figure looks so much like her. I have her saying one of Hakufu's signature lines from the series. Some of the characters in the crew will get featured more prominently in future stories. There will also be a round of reassignments and promotions following the conclusion of the story. Right now I'm on page 140 which is tying up loose ends. The comic has gone over long but then I stretched out some of the scenes to add personal interest. The characters each wanted a small chance to explain themselves to create a broad ensemble cast for future tales.
Okay everyone who has and hour of free time coming up in the next week go over and volunter to judge in the DD Awards. I really can't. It's not the free time thing. I've done lots of judging in the past and I hate it. I guess I don't trust my own judgement or something. I tend to make snap judgements and then rationalize them. This sucks and I'm against it and this is why. I have gotten pretty brutal which is also why I steer clear of doing comic reviews. I can really slam it to something if I feel it needs to be said. And it always needs to be said. Really if something sucks tell the person (in private) but most importantly give them suggestions on how to fix it. You don't need to come out and say “This sucks” just “you know if you did this or worked on that the quality would really improve.” But I usually keep my mouth shut because people are usually incapable of listening. But it's my style… I'm not saying to change everything, okay maybe I am, but it can only get better and I'm offering to help! I want you to reach your potential of greatness. No it's the way I do things. I'd rather just keep my mouth shut.
And be content to SUCK forever! Bruhahahaha!

I don't think you've "harshed" me at all (which can be a bad sign, I know, indicating something is not worth the critique). Getting the "straight dope" on our work is so valuable...and one of the few downsides of the Duck, where niceness tends to rule. Niceness is...well, nice, but doesn't help anybody do better. You'd be a fine, worthy judge (and have been, I suspect)!

Cuz we need you! You’re one of the best critics of art and storytelling around, always very knowledgeable about art styles and technique, along with the history, trivia, and pop-culture behind all the subjects being presented. So, seriously, reconsider! I know you hate it, but I’ve done stuff I hated before because it was needed and I was good at it! Do it for the Children!! :D Oh… and Great Page!

So you're the Simon Cowell of Webcomics eh? :D Well, you have pointed out issues with my comic (such as bad military tactics and a few issues with physics and biology), but it's always in an indirect, witty tone with a bit of sarcasm thrown in; one that I never took as mean-spirited! More often that not it made me laugh, but I always took what you wrote to heart and made efforts to 'fix' it. Point is, I know you can judge something without being brutal (and yes you can be brutal - I've read other critiques of yours...) Maybe you think I'm fragile or something, haha. Seriously though, I think you're one of the best critics on the site. Yes, you're quick to point 'the problems' but that's fine - everybody gets their feelings hurt too easy these days! How can anyone ever learn if their 'mess-ups' are never brought to their attention? And you're also ready with the praise when you feel it's earned! I think you should reconsider your judging stance.

Do what Bravo says, people. Sign up to judge, or they'll start flipping coins!

Who'd trust a furry crook like that to be in Star Fleet? Are they really that desperate?

It's also hard to be a judge after you've voted because your favourite comic might come up. I'll happily contribute to the presentations if asked but judging is for those far more qualified.
