Facing Fears
I heart artists on July 7, 2007
Nadia survived. She spent a long time in the hospital (bacterial infection) and had tons of surgery. Now all she has to show for it is a hair raising story and a slightly unusual-looking hand. I still stay in touch with her and I just sent her the link to this page. Hi Nadia!
Happy Sunday everybody!

You've lived quite an interesting life, and you're one heck of a storyteller.
dime360 at 3:33PM, July 10, 2007
u seem to have seriously crappy luck
booger at 2:37PM, July 9, 2007
oman that had to be scary
Willy at 2:25AM, July 9, 2007
I'm not surprised that it took you so long to go back in the water. It took me five years after I suffered a severe asthma attack while I was swimming far away from the beach. I had to go back alone hardly breathing (and I don't swim that well). I think it is not even half as scary as your story. I hope you had your fears exorcised this sunday.
legendkiller13 at 7:31PM, July 8, 2007
the last panel is beautiful! i have a fear of water also, for various reasons, lol.
FAL at 4:09PM, July 8, 2007
That sure was some scary sh*t I believe!
Vindibudd at 3:06PM, July 8, 2007
ACTION PACKED!

That had to be a life-changing incident for you both, I'm glad Nadia survived. Good luck with the surfing, I hope it helps cure your fears.
I Hate Dirt at 12:58PM, July 8, 2007
tera, i never realized you were so adroit.
I Hate Dirt at 12:58PM, July 8, 2007
wow!!! looks like you're the only dummy who took my post literally. congratulations ! Tera is one of my friends who I've worked with in the past. in fact, i introduced Tera on my own strip the first day she arrived on DD. so the next time you see something that turns your brain inside-out, have someone go over it with you word by word to make sure you understand that it's only a joke. calm down, spartacus.
steve_sloan at 12:42PM, July 8, 2007
First, great strip, Tera. And the fact that it's true only makes it more awesome. Second, to I Hate Dirt: I realize you're probably a troll, but still... you have your facts all wrong. Sharks do not know what humans are. They are not very intelligent animals. Humans are not indigenous to the oceans; therefore they are not part of the normal shark diet. When a shark attacks a human, as Tera has so adroitly told, it is almost always because it mistook the human for a sea animal that would be a normal part of its diet. And your assertion that sharks can smell blood in the sea for 15,000 miles -- the friggin' planet Earth is about 25,000 miles -- that's a lot of territory to cover once they get a whiff. And your idiotic statement that they can smell on land for 10,000 miles ignore the fact that they would most likely be busy suffocating once they are out of water, what with them being fish and all. God, you're an ass.

impressive update! Props to you for facing your fears... your story gave me chills. I could understand why you wouldn't go back in the water!
man in black at 12:08PM, July 8, 2007
wow, all i can think off is wow. The closest i've ever come to sharks are at our zoo aquarium, so i couldn't imagine being that close to one, scary
I Hate Dirt at 11:15AM, July 8, 2007
sharks only live to kill humans. it's the taste, see. they love the taste of our blood and will go insane just for a drop of it. sharks can smell blood in the water for up to 15,000 miles. they can smell it on land for almost 10,000. being new to the planet(they appeared around 1500 years ago) sharks see man as their #1 enemy. Nadia should do what i do when i'm yachting. i take an oar or the rapier i keep on deck and hit it over it's head or stab it through his belly where he keeps his infants.......shotguns work, too. :0)

Wow, that is scary...and somehow as soon as you started talking about going beyond the breakers, I had a feeling where this was going. That had to be VERY frightning. Looks like you handled yourself pretty admirably there. You can take credit for your friend living to surf another day. I like the from below shot there and how similar you made you and your friend on boogie boards look compared to the turtle. Sharks biting humans more often than not is because of mistaken identity. Here's hoping that your day surfing was much more pleasant. Give a big virtual hug to your friend, sounds like she needs it!

sharks suck.
Yog at 9:06AM, July 8, 2007
This is way better than "Shark Week" on the Discovery Channel.
crazyduck at 9:02AM, July 8, 2007
I have never been attacked by a shark. In case you were wondering.
Drazi500 at 8:28AM, July 8, 2007
Oh man, I'm glad she survived. I was attacked by a shark but I didn't get bit too badly.
curlpop at 7:31AM, July 8, 2007
Oh man. thats really really scary!! wow. sharks are fucking CRAZYYY
Inidas at 7:20AM, July 8, 2007
Nothing else to say. Just 5vd.
mrquigley14 at 5:23AM, July 8, 2007
I knew the turtles were secretly plotting something..
D0m at 4:21AM, July 8, 2007
Tch, no girl named 'Nadia' could let a Shark get the better of her!! You'll be fine in the water...
Tantz_Aerine at 3:55AM, July 8, 2007
Ouch. I don't know if I'd ever try getting in the water again. It is a scary story- I am glad you both made it. The worse part was probably going back with all the blood pointing towards you in the water. O.O
theJimmy at 2:40AM, July 8, 2007
wow. good luck on the waves. I don't think I could do it if I had been through what you have. -J.
