Altered States
I heart artists on Aug. 3, 2007
Not enough acting gigs to quit my day job, of course.
I feel pretty crappy about this whole thing…kind of like I betrayed myself or something.
Anyway…
Happy Saturday!

somedays as a kid (even now on rare days) I wish I wasn't so 'ethnic' and could mix in with the 'pretty' anglo people better. Luckily I got over that with a mix of hiphop and counter culture inspired bravado *grabs croch * - BOOYEAH down with the (white) man. lols. but ye I guess its one of the pit falls of becoming a model/actress in a place like hollywood , theres an image, already pre-chosen notion of beauty that they want you to squeeze into. to follow a dream one must sacrifice, question how much do you sacrifice before its not your dream anymore?....

Let me tell you the secret of life... Happiness is not about money or your job or anything else. Happy is a choice. Focus on the good, do your best to chance the bad and let the rest go.

i dont think i'd have the guts to have surgery...
RabbitMaster at 8:26PM, Aug. 5, 2007
That's a pretty significant question, don't you think?
Tantz_Aerine at 10:43PM, Aug. 4, 2007
I would be willing to bet that the whole thing offered you much more confidence than before- which would probably account for your glowing pizzaz; and that is what is getting you the parts :) In that way, it was probably helpful.

I feel the same way. My nose is large but I'm light-skinned, so it doesn't look right. But it's the only thing left that helps me identify myself as black. If I go under the knife, do I betray my race? Do I betray myself? I guess you can't worry about that too much. It's Hollywood, and it's what you wanted, so just go for it.

i dunno what to say, u should post before and after pics, so we can see if it even made a huge difference
sci_fi guy at 2:18PM, Aug. 4, 2007

RushtonCygnus at 12:48PM, Aug. 4, 2007

Drazi500 at 9:21AM, Aug. 4, 2007
You're not happy because you changed your looks because someone else said you were ugly, you feel as if you sold yourself out to these people. Tera, You did what you had to do and it's paid off, you have great Acting offers I'm sure. So basically...I'm saying, Cheer up. ^^

Come to think of it, this post should have went on the page before..... For the comic above, it is horrible how much of a control can make a beautiful woman want to change their appearance for anything. It rememinds me of a Robin Williams stand up where he was talking guys wanting their ladys to get implants, and the woman comes right back and says, oh yea daddy man, well i want you to get your balls done for me!!! I want those things to be swaying for that baywatch run scene!!! Cracks me up everytime!! :)
niclipsegsx at 8:56AM, Aug. 4, 2007
Artist progression is the best! You get that nice sense of accomplishment, and its warm and fuzzy and almost squishy! I get that way over my artwork as well. Good job Tera!
Daf42 at 8:53AM, Aug. 4, 2007
Oh this is way too deep for me
dgriff13 at 7:46AM, Aug. 4, 2007
that's a tough situation to be in. Ever hear of the stand-up comic Margaret Cho? She got that "too ethnic" remark as well (she is Asian)... and for the fact that she was a little chunky. One of her routine's was about just this, what she had to go through to please others. It's a shame hollywood has to make everyone fit a mold... a mold 99% of people don't fit!
dueeast at 7:37AM, Aug. 4, 2007
Wow, that is a deep thought! I always wondered how people felt after getting different kinds of plastic surgery. It was an interesting sacrifice you made to achieve what you wanted. Do you think that, career-wise, it was worth it, but personally, you miss how you used to look? For what it's worth, who you are shines through in your art and personality every bit as much as the look of a face. All our looks will change over time anyway... :)
arteestx at 6:05AM, Aug. 4, 2007
For what it's worth, I don't think you betrayed yourself. Your comics are so brave because you dare to reveal yourself as you are. And I admire that.
D0m at 4:05AM, Aug. 4, 2007
Interesting how we have to change ourselves for other people, huh?
harryq at 3:47AM, Aug. 4, 2007
This is the thing I love about this strip. As for the angst, don't worry about slight exterior modifications. You do what you do,it is what it is, and the Tera inside shines on eternal. Oh, and thanks again for all these pages of you.
theJimmy at 3:37AM, Aug. 4, 2007
what's done is done. no regrets I s'pose. -J.
Captain_Rickets at 2:51AM, Aug. 4, 2007
I DON'T TALK MUCH!
n_y_japlander at 12:31AM, Aug. 4, 2007
Blend in or stand out... tough question!
jurbas at 12:20AM, Aug. 4, 2007
Ethnic looking? wtf is with that? that is the biggest load of f***en B.S. ever. I would take that as racial discrimination and id woop his ass or sue him as u yankees like to do
Peipei at 11:46PM, Aug. 3, 2007
Too Ethnic looking? What the heck is that supposed to mean?! o.O Whoever told you that is a jerk. Ethnicity should have nothing to do with getting a lead part of a play or a movie :3
