My dad's from Mobile, Alabama. My mom is from Austin, just like me. My dad died from cancer in 1997.
I married a black woman 5 years my junior. She also has Apache Indian heritage. We have the same birthday (Aug. 26) Initially, we went through a lot being interracial but once we started having kids, strangely enough, people started getting over themselves.
We have two sons (mixed, obviously), born in 1995 and 1998 and their birthdays are 2 days apart. They're both 3rd generation Austinites!
Pennsylvanian Dutch, German, and well...I dunno what else...yup Mutt as well...
My Dad did 22 years in the Navy, retired as a chief Petty Officer, and though he's going on 67 he's still working (currently driving Trucks for Swift).
My grandfather on my dad's side was in the Army. My sister retired just over a year ago from the Navy, and I'm coming up on my 20th year.
My husband retired from the Navy after nearly 22 years of service as well.
My daughter is about to go into the 8th grade! No not High School already!! HEE...She was officially a teenager as of July 28th.
My grandfather on my mother's side helped build the China Lake NAS here in Cali, which is where my Mom and Dad met.
I have no grandparents left, the remaining two passed on in 2002 while I was on WESTPAC cruise. I couldn't be there for grandma's funeral, and hers hit me harder, because I didn't get to see her as often anyway. They held off on grandpa's until I could attend. They were opposite sides of my family.
A (not so) short synopsis....
I am descended from what some peoeple would call coonasses, some people would just call white trash. I come from a family of theives and con men on my dad's side, including my dad, and a family of slightly more sophisticated thieves and con men on my mom's side.
Dad's taste in women extends to..well, umm.. they have to be breathing.
Now ask me how my parents met.
By the way, Tera, I had a feeling your mom was from P.I. After a few years in the Navy I can spot them pretty well.
Both of my parents were Haitian immigrants. Dad died when I was four, and my mother when I was six...? Actually, I think it was seven. Anyway, I'm not really close to my family. Great page!
Hmmm, We hold our family reuinions in a 10 acre field with a tent in the middle and with a back hoe sitting next to the tent. That way we have the means and enough room to bury the bodies because everybody hates everybody else. Lets see haven't had a reunion for the last 15 years or so.
well I'm just really gunna confuse most of you guys ok?
I was born in Swan View in WA(Western Australia not Washington) then spent half of my short life in Dongara again in WA then my mum got remarried to a guy 9 years younger than her(hes also 9 years older than my biggest sister) they had a kid after we had moved to Kelmscott a suburb in Perth.
My family is my Mum and my step-Dad(though hes more of a Dad than anyone else ever will be) my oldest sister moved out and has 2 daughters, my other older sister moved to Geraldton 40 minutes north of Dongara(she sent me a txt message yesterday telling me she finished Harry Potter) I'm the middle child the first boy, then my little brother who is quite sporty(and wets the bed) while I'm more creative and thinky and my baby sister whom I regurlarly babysit so she considers my room hers and just moves all of my stuff around.
Well one of my grandads also like exotic women, he went to China for his company then met a woman and hes now separating from my Grandma( he plans to start a new family with this lady) my stepDad is upset by this because he was an only child.
My other grandparents are awesome my Grandads Dutch and met my Grandma when he didn't even know any English but she Australian and love does extraordinary things. My great Grrandad on my stepdads mums side died last year age 92 and my greatgrandma on my stepdads dads side is still alive she lives in Fremantle.
Hope I didnt confuse you too much
I have a similar story to the 'grandfather attempting suicide' one, except it was my uncle, he used a noose, and he succeeded.
I'm going to stop typing now.
My grandfather attempted suicide as well, after an argument with his wife over the propriety of giving someone a Gideon bible as a gift. He went outside with his pistol, aimed it at his temple and fired...but his palsy was so bad he missed his intended target and the bullet struck a tree instead.
Indian (american) on my "poop-head's" (fathers side), and yes heavy drinking does come with the Indian gene. And Mutt on my mothers' side.
not much as far as stories go..
Grew up in NY, but I'm a die hard Eagles fan... NY does NOT have a team out side of Buffolo, the othe two play in Jersey!
COOL.. Gramps had a Rols?!?!?
Secret's out about that handshake - Born and mostly raised in San Diego...Military brat here too (US Navy) - That town is loaded with Pinoys (We have a section of town I like to call Little Manila).
Spent time in Guam to for a hot minute too. Youngest of six here. First collge grad of all six...which is pretty cool!
Good times!
The memories of my family outings are still a source of strength to me. I remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was - and drive and drive. I'm not sure where we'd go, but I think there were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we called "Dad." We'd eat some stuff, or not, and then I think we went home. I guess some things never leave you.
Nice page, T! And until the Bears replace Grossman, your dad's gonna keep tossing his hat at the tv.

My family is boring. I'm English and I was born in Niagara Falls. Free masons scare me.

Great page. You're on a roll! I'll refrain from mentioning my family because i have a propensity for making things up. It's true!
