Gazeteer: Bell Alley

I thought it might be nice to reveal some hitherto unknown information about Bell Alley. The kind of information that you might not get from just reading the comic, or even the book Fate's Hand. These are the places that are the lifeblood of any city and I think they're often as important as the comic pages themselves.

I write novels and books, so I'm a big fan of exposition myself :)

I love the little character pages and bits and pieces you drop in to fill in information about the background of the city and "world" you've created - it helps to fill us in. I don't think it disrupts the storyline so much as it helps to "fill" it by giving us more definition of your world. Then again, I tend to read *gasp* NOVELS AND BOOKS and they tend to have a LOT of exposition in them ... ;-)

I love the small poem... reminds me of Dr. Suess' kinda peom but 4439843798448943 times better... That's a great info about Bell Alley... it's one heck of a place for a Friday night, is it?

trevora: no problems, I can post more art linkage if you want in the forums? Steely: Robert.L.Asprin's: Thieves World and Leiber's Lankhmar are two of my favourite world settings and books. I've always liked those. As well as Conan et-al.

What a delightful little place. Reminds me of some of the old Fritz Leiber or Robert E. Howard fantasy I love to death. Definitely a nice addition to this comic.

That is KICK ASS! Thanks for the link.

midge: thanks man. I am wishing that DD supported some kind of functionality where they allow you to put up a seperate gallery or sorts for those pages. I presume you can do it if you have the code skill, but neither myself nor Reva have that talent. As for the Jarlaxle comment, thanks, though Talon's been around since first ed AD&D and Lankhmar. It's not the first time folk have actually drawn that comparison though.

after your comment in unnoiced comics thread I stop over to check out your comic. The illustrations well done and has its own style. great job on creating the enviroments and the minute details are wonderful. I am glad you decided to change how you do your text on the pages moving mre towards narrative boxes. has a poetic feel. the only thing which struck as disrupting is the constant character pages and others like this one. really takes away from the stroy, in my opinion. looking forward to how this develops. also our main character reminds a bit of Jaraxle of Salvatore's Drizzt series...I always liked that character. :)

trevora: just for you -- This little linky here to a full size Nightshade picture amanda: So do I. Bell Alley is actually named after an alley local to where I live. There's a ghost story involving a murdered victorian Bobby (policeman) that inspired me to put a homage to it into Hestonia.

Ew, spittle-flecked lips? Someone get that man a handkerchief! That's a fascinating story - I do love a good ghost tale.

I thought it might be, I have a hi-def monitor, let me know if the update is easier to read? (puts it up now) As per usual, most people will need to hit shift-reload in the web browser to view it!

This is a wonderful work of prose, but it's just a smidge hard to read. I was able to open it as an image in a new window and zoom in just a bit. Also, I see no good reason to visit Bell Alley. Ever. :P
