Chapter Two: Page 24

We've hinted at the various races on Hestonia, so after a lot of hinting…Imperior, Scandish and Nubian…we present, Inquisitor: Avala Vara - a nubian woman and the captain of the battleship: Aurus Lux.

Yay - I'm catching up ... slowly! And yay, too, for another foxy lady. When I retire, I want a cottage in Hestonia. With wolf-proof locks, obviously!

Well-done page! I especially like her costume. Looks great, but it's obvious she means business.

Warped: Thanks man. Starwolf: Many thanks :)

katyas, as Stig points out quite correctly. The Church of Progression and the society as a whole are extremely racist, since this is a quasi-medieval/renaissance era and not based on our own 20th century things are going to be different. I also know full well about trying to type with cats in the way, I very often have three interested in what I'm doing at any one time. trevora: thanks Stig: you're quite correct, so any nubian within the CoP ranks is going to be a character who can take care of themselves and have the peak of their training. Such as Inquisitor Vass Drae (from Fate's Hand)
Stig Hemmer at 1:25PM, Aug. 25, 2008
katyas: I automatically assumed that the Church have a history of racism, making it very hard for a nubian to raise in the ranks. Definitely an Imperial March moment.
katyas at 11:44AM, Aug. 25, 2008
why are these guys concerned/surprised she is Nubian? & have you any idea how difficult it is to type with one hand when the kitty wants to grab my bracelet? no? well, it's difficult ...
Doctor Shadow at 9:13AM, Aug. 25, 2008
amanda: Yes, to look someone like that in the eye directly is probably a serious challenge. Steely: Originally, way way back when I planned this...it was a different nubian character, but she didn't make it past Fate's Hand (the book) so I had to craft a new character to replace her. We'll probably end up exploring a lot of the backgrounds to the characters in flashbacks or at least narrative. As I said before though, I really want to show people Messania and the Imper Vatica!
Reva Flynn at 8:55AM, Aug. 25, 2008
Steely, I kept thinking of Star Wars drawing this strip...you know the Imperial March (I think thats what they call it LOL)! DADADA DADADAA DADADAAA etc etc
Steely Gaze at 8:29AM, Aug. 25, 2008
Scaaary.... I would want to be on a whole 'nother continent right now! She looks like the sort of person I should be fearing. That landing scene came out good, giving us a nice wide view before settling us, in the final panel, with a much more personal view of the captain.
amanda at 7:47AM, Aug. 25, 2008
She's the captain of the ship AND an inquisitor...AND she's exiting the ship with no seen companions/bodyguards... yeah, I wouldn't mess with her. Or look her in the eye, probably.
Doctor Shadow at 7:21AM, Aug. 25, 2008
harry: Yup, spot on :) Azarr: The Captain of the Aurus Lux is there to supervise the transport of Leyland's troublesome wife, so I think really bad just about sums it up. Loud_G: In the future we're actually going to give you a glimpse into what remains of the CoP starting with a look at Messania, their holy city and the Imper Vatica, the seat of their power.
Loud_G at 6:20AM, Aug. 25, 2008
Excellent. I can't wait to find out more about this strange church. :)
Azarr at 5:44AM, Aug. 25, 2008
Now is this good, bad or really bad? For some odd reason I doubt it is good, so I suppose that leaves us with bad or really bad.
harryq at 3:51AM, Aug. 25, 2008
Well, this is no one to mess with.
