Chapter Four: Page 15

There's one thing I love more than action, it's dialogue. I love the verbal games of chess that characters can play. Silver, is adept at just that - Kalon isn't a master of any kind of verbal chess game, he speaks with the voice of an Inquisitor and it's a good job Silver had a stiff drink there.

Thanks for all the helpful advice:) Wyrden is my first foray into comic style art. I think I'm still a baby at it after just over a year lol, compared to the rpg art and cartography which I've been doing for just over 10 years now;)
Doctor Shadow at 2:04PM, April 9, 2009
Yeah, the artist (Reva) is normally found illustrating RPGs, so she's still learning. I'm sure that link and DAJB's should give her some good reference. Ta.

And if I could humbly add a suggestion --- going back to what Midge was talking about: the artist crossed the 180 degree axis. Here's the detail via wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/180_degree_rule. Anyhow, I dig the art on this page. 'Just trying to help out. :)

Great page! I dig the dialogue.

Loud_G: That sword pendant is quite special. amanda: I like it :> Zeph: thanks! JNP: Silver has only just taken a drink of her wine, Kalon, well, he hasn't touched a drop.
JustNoPoint at 9:35AM, April 9, 2009
You know, they drink a lot :P And yup. Dialogue can be pretty fun when you get 2 characters that work well off each other and they start writing themselves.
amanda at 8:20AM, April 9, 2009
Formal speech plus thinly veiled sarcasm equals pure win!
Loud_G at 7:35AM, April 9, 2009
That knife necklace looks like it could be quite painful if one bent just the wrong way. :D
Reva Flynn at 7:34AM, April 9, 2009
Thanks for that link DAJB:)
Doctor Shadow at 7:11AM, April 9, 2009
ipokino: spot on! DAJB: Kalon is just pretty good at telling it how it is. ghostrunner: cheers! baby doll: hi and thanks! Midge: I can only speak for myself, I can see what you mean - however it would have meant that Reva drew Silver facing the same way all the time, which she's been criticised for doing way back early on. Thanks though :) repoman: Thanks, I try :) DAJB: Superb resource, thanks man! harry: cheers amigo!

Very nice exchange.

@ Reva: The best resource I've ever found for how to make sections of dialogue visually diverse is Wally Wood's 22 Panels That Always Work!!. I'm firmly of the view that every comic artist should have a copy of this pinned above his/her drawing board. Or PC. Or Wacom tablet. Of course, I say that knowing that I don't do any of the art on my comics, but it's definitely worth checking out!

Very nice dialogue.
Reva Flynn at 6:20AM, April 9, 2009
Well, I am still learning how to draw web comics and in the past I have been critized for having people facing the same way all the time lol. It isn't possible to flip the last panel as then the window to the room would be on the wrong side of the room the way I have it mapped out. Same if I flipped Silvers panel to suit. Any alteration would require me to redraw those two panels totally. So you have to pretend the camera is rotating around the room:)
TheMidge28 at 6:09AM, April 9, 2009
just one crit on this page, in the first panel you have Kalon on the left and Silver on the left then in next panel you move her to the right as the camera moved which is fine but then you have Kalon facing the same direction Silver is facing in the previous panel. as for flow the last panel would work better if the last panel was flipped facing Silver in the previous panel. just a thought.

I agree! Dialogue is more than the icing on the cake, it's the flour! But beautiful art all the same.
ghostrunner at 3:41AM, April 9, 2009
indeed!
DAJB at 3:27AM, April 9, 2009
Silver may play the better game of verbal chess, but Kalon seems to be holding his own with a little verbal draughts!
ipokino at 3:16AM, April 9, 2009
I agree...action is the artist's forte, words are the writer's!
