Chapter Five: Page 2

One of the cool things with designing Wyrden and Hestonia itself were the various elements of the society, some people are better off than others and here in the Middle Circle of the city you can see the coach can afford a certain kind of horse, steam powered sleek metal ones.

I'd guess the owner is more than a little wealthy. the extensive and elaborate manes and tails might make the difference between mecha-horses for work and those for showing off wealth

The horns are basically because I thought they looked cooler (and scarier) than little swivelly ears. They receive sensory input so the horse can hear and also detect vibrations etc, they also provide a means of detecting temperature changes etc. I was going to have them as steam vents as well but that would just look very silly! Oh yes...they can also be used as a stabbity stabby thing;)
DAJB at 12:44AM, May 23, 2009
Well, of course. Every vehicle needs a horn (or two) to toot at pedestrians! Sorry. Couldn't resist! ;-)
Doctor Shadow at 2:10AM, May 22, 2009
repo: thanks :)
Doctor Shadow at 2:07AM, May 22, 2009
kyupol: That would be cluck-cluck surely ;)? ghostrunner: clip-clop is the correct noise for a coconut. DAJB: The horns do have a function, according to Reva.
DAJB at 1:03AM, May 22, 2009
Now, why would anyone building a metal horse put horns on it? Oh, 'cos it looks cool! Silly me!
repoman at 9:12PM, May 21, 2009
The horses look great. And I really like the "camera" angle of the first panel. The bird in the foreground is a nice touch.
ghostrunner at 8:27PM, May 21, 2009
they're actually cocoanuts
kyupol at 6:10PM, May 21, 2009
sfx sound like clucking chickens to me. (dont blame me. I just cant stop thinking about chickens.)
Doctor Shadow at 2:50PM, May 21, 2009
Azarr: thank you! amanda: they'd have your hand off ;) albone: Many thanks for the compliment. Adam: Thanks man! Zeph, Crimson, trevora: thank you for popping in khard12: thank you very much, welcome to Wyrden! Starwolf: cheers!

I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the carriage that Talon has "acquired" for their ride to the mansion. Nothing but the finest for our Talon! BTW-I have spent the last 2 days catching up with the archives. This is a great story and your wife's artwork is simply amazing.
Adam Black at 10:05AM, May 21, 2009
Those are awesome horses.
albone at 8:15AM, May 21, 2009
Sharp looking page. The last two are especially engaging.
amanda at 7:48AM, May 21, 2009
Evil metal horsies! I still want to pet them. Someone ought to get that guy a bubble pipe.
Doctor Shadow at 5:29AM, May 21, 2009
Net: hahaha! I wondered when someone might come up with that. I have a whole notebook on the inner workings of these things, mainly because eventually Wyrden will become an rpg setting.
Net at 5:24AM, May 21, 2009
Heh, an advantage of metallic horses... the droppings they leave behind can be smelted down and used for other purposes. :p Sweet page. >Net
Doctor Shadow at 4:45AM, May 21, 2009
M0rgan: thanks for stopping in. tim: cheers man! Midge: So do many other people, if you look at the left horse you can see where the steam pipes are at the back of his legs. Also, look at the jointed plates on the neck. These are a far cry from the steam horses they use on the farms, which basically have cogs, gears, pipes and the works on them. These are the shiny upper class horses that the gentry get.
TheMidge28 at 4:37AM, May 21, 2009
the horses are metal? I thought they were demonic.
ttyler at 3:23AM, May 21, 2009
Nice cinematic pace on these panels.
