The elven city of Shezzarline: A letter bearing the seal of House Ashenor and House Naran'thil.

To the patriach of House Ashenor,

(Lengthy segment of formalities and greetings)

But let us do away with the formalities for a moment, for the purpose of this letter.

My dear friend Benriel, I believe you are aware of, as I am, the growing fondness between your daughter, Valeria, and my son, Sollivan. Indeed, it is as if the Gods themselves have mirrored our friendship through the interactions of our children. I believe that there is more potential to this than just a simple friendship, and thus it is with some trepidation that I propose an engagement between the two–a perfect union between two of the most influential houses in Shezzarline.

Perhaps you might recall the times when we joked about the differences between our children, despite the similarities between their parents. Such a match seemed absurd, then: Valeria's interests always steered towards life, light, and justice; Sollivan was more preoccupied with the Beyond, its precursors, and its ramfications. Yet, it seems that the more their interests draw apart, the closer the bond between them, as they discuss theological differences. I have always hoped that your daughter's grace and cheer would discourage some of my son's more morbid experiments; and have you not also wished that my son's approach to life would allow your daughter to take her responsibilities more seriously?

Tomorrow will be the first Astis of this Fa'ligh, and we shall meet for tea, as always. Perhaps we might speak of this matter in more detail?

Yours Sincerely,
The War Minister
Menelag Naran'thil

PS: You may be aware that your daughter has taken an interest in the viewpoints of the war prisoners, particularly a certain disgraced shaman whose life you insisted on sparing. I would remind you that no good can come from this.
