Happened to me too as secretary for our Gaming club when the old secretary bailed, a year later there was a pitched battle for the job, so I guess I either did a good enough job that everyone wanted to be part of it, or such a bad job that everyone wanted someone competent in the position =-b

What was the name on the can? "Tobimaro's Turtelini"? I feel honored. BTW, I actually volunteered once to be an officer for a state-wide library club organization back when I was in high school (it was a small group). Not too long after that two of our other members got caught violating our school's alcohol policy, and our club withdrew from the org. I was not happy.
