UncleRice: Actually, letting the child die by hunger is even cheaper that bullet. AND as a bonus it's historically tested and proven solution. KAM: We are first society who thinks it's bad if someone who isn't providing ANYTHING to the society dies. Hell, some even argue that people who are DANGER to society should live (I'm speaking about death penalty issue) ! There are LOT of problems appearing because of this.

@hkmaly: If it's strictly about money, then a bullet to the head of the woman who wants me to pay for her birth control or child support is inherently cheaper than the birth control or child support. If personal responsibility for your actions is the measuring stick of choice, then maybe if she wants to play, then she needs to pay.

Wow! So this is how you get lots of comments. Whack a beehive. hkmaly - That argument about society raising the kids is flawed. Our society has open access to lots of highly reliable contraceptives & abortion, far more so than any society in history, and yet I can't recall any society having the raise the kids problem you cite. Also I did not say slut and I wouldn't. Even as a kid I knew that the slut=bad while stud=good was a idiotic double-standard. The character merely said she has a lot of sex which if you think about it are the ones who would be the most likely to take advantage of taxpayer-funded condoms &/or abortions. Ozmandious - Where did I mention God?

@Ellendra: Tell ya what, I'll pay a little for the birthcontrol and you can pay to raise the children. I promise you that you will pay many times more than I will. Not all of them fail to use the birthcontrol, but it isn't a fool proof system. In my days as an auto mechanic I told several of my customers this same montra... "You can pay me a little now for the maintainence or pay me a lot later when it breaksdown." A lot of them took my advise and did the maintainence, but there were some who said, "It runs just fine, it just leaks a quart of oil per week." The same thing can be applied here. But hey, if you have a perfect fool proof system I would love to hear it.

@Ellendra: Those hundreds of places that offer the free condoms and alternative birth control get their money from somewhere to provide those things. Chances are that money is from tax payers via some government program.

@Toshubi and @hkmaly: Except it's not either-or. There are hundreds of places that offer free condoms already, and some offer other forms of birth control as well. Why does the government need to step in and provide something that is already being provided in plenty? (and being ignored in plenty?)

Gonna have to agree with hkmaly to a degree on this one. I'd rather spend less than $100.00 for birth control pills or condoms than pay $100,000.00 or more for doctors, welfare, theropy, ect. (The list goes on and on.) The biggest problem I see is that most of these people don't use the birth control even when it is given to them! You are right about acting like an adult when it comes down to sex. I couldn't agree with you more in that area. Prehaps a better approach would be to have those that get an abortion due to "casual" unprotected sex have their tubes tied.

True, but someone should have the choice, not have someone tell them they can't because those in power believe differently. I fought in 3 wars and in every single one of them it was against a country whose leaders led because "God" was on their side. Now we have politicians telling us "God" is on their side too, and now He doesn't want us to give women health care. Next it will be someone else can't have something else. Remember the "God fearing members of the Klan?" Keep religion out of government, or we become the next Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, ect...

Your argument is logical, but you fail to see the practical point of view: it's much cheaper to pay the contraceptives that to raise the children instead of that irresponsible parent. Unless you are ready to let that child die by hunger, it's the taxpayer who will be punished when the irresponsible parent will not act like adult. Also, it's very misogynist to imply that any woman wanting contraceptives is slut. Having only one partner will NOT protect you against pregnacy.
