And there's page one. I'm quite happy with the forest on the mountains. And I tried something new here, with textures and displacement maps. It didn't go quite as well as I wanted.

might I suggest a sense of motion, here is a good technique I found while doing my chapter 1 splash. (providing that you have an advanced paint program with layers)
Duplicate the layer of the thing you want to have in motion then hide the one that you just made, which should be on top, so it doesnt get in the way.
Then switch to the original and add motion blur filter, without washing it out completely. You will just want a mild to moderate blur. Finally unhide the copy, which is unaltered and you have like a stop motion blur.
