This week marks the 2-year anniversary of both the creation of SF and the posting of the first strip! Man, I can't believe it's been that long. That's just insane. Next year is going to be very, VERY interesting for longtime fans.
Baltimore Comic-Con
Hey, the big Baltimore Comic-Con is this weekend. If any of you are headed that way, be sure and stop by the Th3r World booth and see what's goin' on. All three SF books will be on sale and you might fight a few other goodies as well. I won't be there, unfortunately, but Mike Witmer of Pinkerton certainly will, along with the Th3rd World crew. My goal is to get out to some cons this next year. Here's crossing my fingers!
SF Forum Happenings
Been some interesting discussions in the forum the past couple of days, including a discussion of the villainy of Tangerine and whether or not SF should be considered a “success.” I'm in a weird place right now, and I kind of just put it all out there. Bear that in mind as you read it.
Next Week:
An unflattering portrait of Captain Spectacular and someone at Valhalla reeeeeally wishes Tangerine hadn't come around.
amanda - All credit for the Tangerine pompadour goes to Dan Woodhouse (Thog Infinitron) who drew up the Space Pig origin story that features a very young Tangerine with that hairstyle.
NYJ - Looks like you have hair to me!
Chip - I think we're all clear on the whole issue now, right?
kavonn - I actually wanted to go further with the 70s fashion, but time and space did not permit it. Would love to return to the 70s world in some future edition of SF.
Smik - You're right. In the Chapter 4 flashback we did indeed see that woman...in a photograph.
Chip - No, don't beat yourself up! This strip is light on the details, even though it is by design. I don't expect everyone to pick up on every little nuance, but I also want to reward those who are paying close attention. Ultimately, I'm writing character here. If I do that sufficiently, then the finer points of the plot are secondary. You get that or you don't, but if you don't then you're still not missing the most important thing.
Jabali - Beer may be smart, but it makes you very, very dumb.
Poki rat - An excellent question. And one which will be answered on Tuesday. You will be surprised, I guarantee it.
rufus edge - Marvels? Wow, man. That's a great book. If I can evoke that even just a little bit, then that's huge for me. As for watching himself on live TV...that's a clue. Check out SF 101 for enlightenment.
mattchee - Someone's a fan, I see.
Dawn - Thanks! (And thanks to everyone for their congratulations) Stay tuned for Tuesday! I think it gets even more interesting! And then...flashback over.
I need to get to work and don't have time to fully respond to the great comments right now, but might I suggest going back to SF 101? I think you'll find the answer to your questions quite easily right there.
And...might I suggest going to www.superfogeys.com? I can access that all day and you can leave comments there as well.
Butif CS killed someone, or did something so horrendous that the media would think he'd gone rogue, I seriously boubt he'd look surprised. The media, even back in the 70's, still responded within hours of an event... Which would mean that CS did something pretty bad, & just a few hours later is shocked by the media's reponse. CS is a sensitive fellow. Seems to me that he'd be a heckuvalot more upset than the media would be, if he'd done something (accidentally or purposely) untoward. Seems to me he'd be brooding somewhere, *expecting* the other shoe to drop.
Now it's possible it was an evil doppleganger, but then CS would be out proving his innocence, not sitting in a bar whining with Tang.
But, hey, my 2 cents has no more worth than anyone else's.
Happy Birthday SF!
I'm interested in if you're basing the 70's backlash on any comic book hero in particular. Since I didn't read comics in the 70's or know what stories were running.
Chip: I don't think the media moved as fast in the 70's as it did now. They might be reporting live from Fort Knox, but that's likely responding to the after-shock of something CS did. For example, if he left a foe in a situation that he didn't realize would kill him/her. The media shows up, "CS killed somebody! He went rogue!" and then they report live, meanwhile CS is sitt'n on his couch after a hard day's work going "WTF?"
We've seen that chick before, too. In another flashback. I'm curious too.
Like this one alot, but there are a few things I'm not getting. How could CS have gone rogue when he's sitting on a couch? And who's the chick with him? Personally, I'd like a bit more info. Seems that if he'd acted crazy enough to have been acused of losing it, he wouldn't be sitting on a couch looking surprised.
Funky monkey.
Happy birth day Superfogeys!!!
Love all the hair in the flash backs... reminds me of me in my youth... hair! How I miss it... on my scalp that is... could do without it on my back, in my ears, and other places!

BlueBeacon - Then that's a mission: accomplished.

Tangerine reminds me of an ageing wolverine.

mmmm beeeer

Happy anniversary SuperFogeys! The three flashback panels seem very much like Busiek and Ross' "Marvels" to me. Is he watching himself on live TV?
Poki_rat at 9:47AM, Sept. 25, 2008
But were was Jerry in all that?

Beer is smart.

Oh, and the "4" was obviously for me, since I'm such an idiot. This page deserves a "5".

Nice 70's outfit in the last panel. That was a nice touch with the big collar. Very interesting page.
