Today my interview with the fine gentlemen at the Comics Coast to Coast Podcast goes live, Episode 53. This is one of the most favorite interviews I've done. We covered a variety of topics, even touching on the influence religion has on my life and work.
Big thanks to Brian Dunaway, Justin Thompson and Tom Racine for having me on. When the prior guest list has included such fine folk as Tim Bradstreet (covers for “Punisher” and many, many others), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Brian Anderson (Dog Eat Doug) and Wes Molebash (You'll Have That), it is truly an honor.
Important Note About Recent Shipment of SuperFogeys Books
Great news! The books have shipped out to all of you that ordered! Thanks so much for your support of Book 3! I can honestly say that I think each book has been better than the last, and this one is no exception.
One thing about those of you that have already ordered–you're probably going to get an email that says something like “Shipment Delivered.” Obviously, this is not quite so. What it's supposed to say is something like “Shipment Shipped” or something a little less alliterative. You get the point. It's just a store error, nothing to worry about.
Baltimore Comic-Con
Th3rd World Studios was strong and proud at the Baltimore Comic-Con this past weekend. Thanks to everyone who stopped by! I heard rumors of SF t-shirts floating about…how odd… Plus, even though I couldn't be there, the Space Pig apparently was…
See you on Thursday! (This strip should give you plenty to chew on until then…)
Smik - Good point. Look at "Secret Invasion." Supers are always being duped. I like your take on the media.
argonassistant - No kidding. Human characters are much more fun to write and I imagine there is much to the past of each of the heroes that they'd rather no one knew about. Be prepared to find out many of those stories in Chapter 8.
Oh ho -- forgot that little note in CS's page! You'd think supers would have a plan in place considering how often crap like that happens. Not that it would stop the media -- they could have ten tonnes of evidence staring them in the face and they'd still go with "He's gone rogue!" because it sells more.
Oops! I think I must be super-tired. Forgot Dawn!
Dawn - The fun thing about doing superheroes like this isn't that their old--it's that there's such a rich history that I get to make up and then draw upon.
As for the podcasts...I hear ya. I try to spread the wealth a little more, but you know how that goes. Unfortunately, as of this post, CC2C guys still haven't posted the interview. It's coming soon though, I promise. Just some illness issues on their end to work out.
OfftheGrid - Awesome. You should get your books very, very soon. Truly hoping you enjoy them.
mattchee - Ain't they fun?
reboundcomic - Thanks for that.
Chip - Dude's old! He's gotta have a kid or two, right?
EEN - Yeah, I think it looks great. I so hope I get to see it in person one day.
kavonn - Good question. All will be revealed.
Smik - It sets up something, I'll give you that much. As for "why Captain Spectacular went rogue..." I'm not coming out and saying it here, but you should be able to piece the whole story together from #166 and #101. I'm sure one day I'll tell it more fully, but the whys and the wherefores aren't as important this time around.
amanda - I'm not saying either way about that kid, but your theory is a sound one based on the evidence presented. All will be revealed.
NYJ - Hmm...what do you think you're onto there? I looked back through the comments to the strips with CS2 in them, and you never said anything about him.
dueeast - I will say definitively that that is not Star Maiden. It's the same woman that appeared in the flashback to 166...and she also appeared one other time. But it's not Star Maiden. Sorry for the confusion. I gotta come up with different looks for the women.
crazyduck - Hey, thanks for that!
Chip - He is indeed very, very observant. He keeps me on my game. If I wasn't keeping track of the various plotlines, all I'd have to do is read his comments. He does a lot of the legwork. He's like a walking, talking SuperFogeys Wikipedia!
Androoo - I'd say that's fair.
Jabali - Then you'll like Thursday's strip--back to the present day!
Poki rat - Thank you! That's a big deal, right? But given the right circumstances...I think that could happen. Well, in my universe, it did happen. CS and Jerry have obviously moved on since then, but wow, right?
rufus edge - He appeared earlier in this chapter. Looks kind of like Shaggy? He kicked Tangerine out of the Society of Heroes.
gah, I finally listened to your last gigcast interview and now you go and do another. Brock! You're just too dang popular!
Great page, amazing how you tie everyone in to these past storylines.
Great page... again with all the hair!!
So CS is a father, but not a dad... I remember back when I commented on the 1st time I saw CS2, but you said.... oh wait!
I just put it together.... I think anyhow!!!!!!! (big emphasis on think!)
Aaaah! Does this kid end up being Captain Spectacular II? Maybe that's why he hated Tangerine because T kept his father away from him or something. Maybe that's reaching? I dunno! Yay for a Space Pig appearance!
We know CS has been married and divorced a few times -- and not just with Star Maiden. (Just like Spy Gal's been 'round the marriage block several times herself)
I guess we'll have to wait to see what exactly caused him to be labelled as a 'rogue'.
I guess we'll have to wait and see who the kids are, eh? Although this COULD be setting up the Third Man's grudge against CS, eh?
I got my shipment e-mail, woohoo! Lookin forward to gettin my hands on it. Looks like you guys had an impressive set up at the Baltimore Comic Con. Great work as usual.
