Beginning in sorrow

This comic originally came to me as an idea for experimenting with an unconventional art style to tell a story, and it's evolved a great deal since then.

The original style was partly influances by a porcelin cup with a landscape on it, and grew from there to include influances from asian brush painting and sumi-e styles. I took the idea of trying to imply the things depicted with simple forms to another area and instead of using differing brushes with differant concentrations of ink and water or differant types of strokes I use only a simple mechanical pencil and lay a heavy scribbled line which I blend with my fingers.

On the whole the technique works but it's still somewhat experimental and I expect it to develop a bit as time goes on.

The placement of the text and the use of a type writer on sketch papers and partchment papers is something I hope adds an artistic touch.
