Right? It's actually a pet peeve of mine. I actually think there are good scenarios to use the trope - like if you have a protag compromising their morals to achieve a goal then saying such a thing when it's actually relevant could cause them to pause and actually examine their own flaws - ...but that almost never happens in stories and usually the protag on the receiving end of that speech has literally nothing in common with the villain and you wonder why anyone even entertains it as it's just an annoying waste of everyone's time. ...what were we talking about? Oh! Right. Here it's mostly just being used to show Mask's total lack of self-awareness - just assuming that Eclipse thinks the same way - an assumption that'll prove to be pretty ironic after the next page. XD (Boy...sorry about all that.)
