Chapter 02 Page 005

I use the Marvel method of comic book making, where I write a plot, sketch a layout, draw, ink and color a page, then script it based on the plot and images.
When I started I did not know that was a thing people did. I was just procrastinating because I have a hard time with dialogue.
I am not entirely happy with how this page came out. Things were very hectic this week, and I did not have nearly as much time as I wanted to complete the page.
The original idea was something I really liked, but I just didn't get to do what I wanted with it.
Perhaps, I could go back and rework pages when I have more time, but I feel like meeting my deadlines and leaving the pages “as is” will help me to get faster and smarter about how I work.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the page. It was less weighed down by my hackneyed writing than some of the previous ones.
I am very interested in developing Wake as a character, but I am still struggling to find his voice. My aforementioned weakness with dialogue is probably a big cause for that.
Thanks you for reading and please leave a comment.

I found that if I really concentrated on how I would talk in a conversation, writing dialogue became easier. I haven't really seen the awkwardness your talking about, so perhaps it's not as dire as you think. I kind of run the opposite way, most of my comics are derived from written works of mine. Using the base material I plot out how the page might look, and then assign action/dialogue to cells based on what that idea is. Perhaps it would help you to write approximate dialogue before you draft the page? I say approximate, because even though I have a "script" to go from, I often tweak dialogue to sound better for a graphic format. I think the page looks fine. I wonder if Jezebel will get angry with him for the lost opportunity for the thing she's seeking.
