The Shadowrun game system had a character class called Elemental Mage (I think). They were essentially Mages who specialized in spells tied to one of the four elemental powers. One of the special abilities they had was to summon and control spirits of their respective domain.

This is Greenjack, an Earth Mage, summoning one of his spirit helpers. I played this character briefly. While he could do a lot of really cool stuff I just never really found his voice as a character. I still like the design though.
