Understanding Greeks is a quick run-through of the Hellenic culture, our strong suit and the weak suit.
History in Brief is a quick (as quick as I could make it) summary of what took place in Greece up until the end of WWII. It's got pictures from the middle and on, which might amuse you. I hope you check it out and tell me what you think!… you know, someday. :p
—Now, about today's update…—
Finally, here comes Anna, the last of Fotis' group (or is it Basil's group? XD) and the reveal of their hideout!
What you see is part of an old (and currently shut down by nazis) distillery in the heart of downtown Athens, in its most ancient section called Plaka (it's directly under the Acropolis, literally built on or grown from the ruins and one of the most beautiful places in Athens), with its special barrel rack for the distilled stuff, mainly ouzo and such strong beverages.
This place actually exists! Though for the purposes of this story I will refrain from naming it (as it is necessary that it remains an abandoned distillery for this story), anyone who lives in Athens will recognise this to be part of Vrettos' distillery in Plaka. It's been active for more than 100 years, used also as a boite when the distillery grew and had to change venues for producing liquor. The original place after the actually distillery moved was turned into a boite of sorts ever since. Now it is an official boite/club where you can literally drink ANY cocktail you wish and a vast array of liquor types including Absinthe. Vrettos distillery is one of the two oldest beverage selling places in Europe! It still produces ouzo, by the way!
I still need of course to work on my backgrounds, but I am fairly happy with my first rendition of the kids' hideout!
Also, this was done with a new tablet I am breaking in, which I got for my birthday. :3 I am 32 years old now! (practically ancient! :P)
Lastly, ÃŽâ„¢ must say I'd had this page ready since last week, but I didn't put it up, because I had run out of time for making the page for today, and so I would again miss a Monday- and I'd run the risk of missing several Mondays in a row and I don't want that. So I kept this for today, and am pleased to say the next one is half-way ready, and we're on schedule.
I hope you all don't mind this. I also don't know whether I should take down last Monday's filler or leave it up or transfer it. I have however answered your comments there in the comment section.
Belated Happy Birthday (me and Angel had one on August 26th, so it's just birthday month all around)! Thanks for the update, it's very nicely colored and the dialogue was nice.
My opinion: leave the filler, it was interesting!
dragonrider: Yay, someone willing to discuss my little essays! These are really brief summaries of eras for which books upon books have been written- but you are right. I have kept some parts of what happened unsaid, because I intend to make big deal out of them in the comic, and discuss them separately rather than in a 'bare bones' kind of historic frame of reference.
I didn't say anything about the great demonstrations by citizens or the resistance movement or the special collaborator troops they fought against.
And I have not yet said much about the betrayals that went on, because really, that is a BIG part of this story's subject matter.
But I really would love to discuss with you these things- maybe in the forum or in PQ. It excites me to do so with people so interested in history- and hellenic one at that!
used books: you make me blush! and yes, the provocation shall be rendered evident in the next page :)
Glad you've got your computer issues in hand, took a quick run through your history section, I think you understated the value of the resistance movement especially when the were dealing with Metaxas, from the git go till death did them part, they somewhat tended to remember which idiot put him in power and how much he stole as soon as he got in power not to mention the people he ruined with blackmail, rumor and innuendo, plus lining the pockets of the Central Komand of Keystone Kops so they were effectively placing Hellenic Defense in the hands of the various groups of partisans and then betraying those groups to "Il Douche and Unka Adolph" and their hellhounds.
*Back to the lurkers korner*
I agree with Nicotine, the last panel is especially fantastic. I shall forever envy your many talents.
I doubt anyone is ever unprovoked. Actions might be over-reactions, but they are always provoked somehow.
Woah, I like the backgrounds on this page and the info about the distillery! :D And I say leave the info up, but you could link it on the info page or something.

Does a leader really need a good reason to strike someone? I think not! :)

Nicotine: thanks! I'll see how I will deal with the info. Probably add it to one of the info pages. DAJB: He will if he needs to!
