So here's Basil's wordy side. He WAS studying to be a lawyer/prosecutor, anyway, so it would be strange if he weren't :p
So, just so you have an idea about Pindos, it's a massive mountain ridge in the north of Greece, where the fascist invasion was repulsed and kept from advancing further inwards.
This is Pindos:
These are Greeks fighting in Pindos in 1940:
Of course the ability to take pics and live to get them developed was severely hampered when it SNOWED. :/
Now, what Basil is referring to will come up again, about how Greek soldiers were undermined in their efforts with little to no proper communication lines and marginal equipment. If you check out History, you can find out more about the Greco-Italian war Basil is referring to. (but if you want DETAIL, then hop in to the forum and I'll provide it!)
As of now, fillers will go to a thread in the WM forum, which I think is the best place to have them when they are info-laden without driving JNP up the wall with updating the site all the time :p
I hope you enjoy this page, wordy though it is.
We are nearing the end of Chapter 1, which is the quietest chapter in all accounts :) Yay!
JNP: Yay that looks really so much neater! Thanks ;)
Some stuff will go to the forum regardless but for some others that are coming up, I'm really relieved. :D
Yay caught up!!!
And now that I finally killed the awards I can add you extra pages so you don't have to put them in the forum :)
Also finally fixed your comment area. Sorry I took so long on all this stuff!
Dragonrider: well at least the US and Brits did get rifles upon being sent to the front. It wasn't totally certain the same would go for Greeks. XD
And it was totally possible for one front to have all the weapons and the other one to end up with all the ammo, and nobody with both.
DAJB same thing with the US Army, they used cars and trucks with signs on them saying TANK to simulate a Panzer Blitz, the trainees had dummy machine guns made out of wood, and they threw rocks to simulate grenades. It's a wonder more weren't killed in the early days of the war than were.
I agree with Nicotine. There's a lovely dynamic between Basil and Fotis.
The lack of weapons reminds me of the comedian Spike Milligan's account (written in suitably bizarre Milliganese!) of his experiences as an ordinary UK soldier during WW2. Apparently, the shortage of weapons here meant UK troops trained with broomsticks rather than rifles and were required to shout "Bang!" in unison!
used books: Yes it is! There are rougher parts, but I couldn't find any good pictures.
Alas, that we all lose our experience when we learn talk! :D
Nicotine: I'm glad you think so! He would never consider that ("I know nothing about kids" XD), but I think he definitely is sort of a 'dad' for all these streetrats. :p
Lies! I was born with all kinds of experience. I could type 90 words a minute and was a sharpshooter and an olympic class ice skater! Mwahaha! Alas, I lost those skills when I learned to talk. Oh well.
Wow. That's some rough terrain. I have a new perspective of war since working at a historical battlefield. Of course, I still detest and abhor it, but now I do so better informed and empathetic.

DAJB: Thanks! I think they got good chemistry, too :) And that broomstick training sounds awesome. *rofl*

Good page :D I like that Basil is a very intelligent and carin person even though he's got a rougher side. Good rolemodel for the children xD
