Damn. Well, VA is a Right to Work state that doesn't force you into unions. No company can force you to join a union here. That is probably the main difference.
Safeway. Our Main union in California lost big time a few years ago, so wer've been getting the shaft every since. And somehow, they still expect 30 bucks a month.
Man. Well, you are making money at all. That is something to be grateful about, even if your company sucks balls. What store do you work for? Giant? Safeway?
Harris Teeter gave me all kinds of cool stuff even as a lowly cashier. I got stock options, I got profit sharing, and I got medical insurance if I wanted it.
I got really lucky!
My store does NOT do profit sharing, it does NOT give stock options, it does not give bonus packages, it does not give anything. And so far, I've been earning minimum wage for 2 years. THey told me, even before the economy went bad that the chances of me getting a raise were slim to none. Now they're practically nonexistent. The mentally handicapped bagboys make more than me! Now can you tell me to be grateful?
Well, this is true, but more hours means more money. A lot of people have ZERO hours because they don't have jobs. You should be glad for what you have, even if it sucks.
If you had actually said that, you probably would be in trouble.
Inter store competetion is good for the company, which can in fact lead to raises. If your store does profit sharing, it can also lead to large bonus checks.

Virginia? Cool. I'm from around Chicago. It's cool how the internet brings us all together, blah blah blah. No need to sign up for a union? Cool.
