Prologue Page 9
iowabarbidoll on Sept. 23, 2007
Thank you again to everyone for reading Xylia! ^_^ I really appreciate all of the kind words, and interest in the story. It is still very early on-still setting things up in this prologue section. THere's three pages to go, and then the next chapter begins. And things change a bit from there.
I want to say ‘hello’ to six year old ‘Fairy Princess Xylia’ out there! (She's real!)
Also, I hope to get started on the supplemental links soon- character bios, gallery, etc. I will also be having Kez help me create a page of FAQ's so if you have a question (that won't spoil anything) I will answer it there. If I get a lot of questions later down the road, I may do a podcast and answer a bunch of questions on camera. (Might show some doodles while Im doing that as well.
That's all for now! Thank you for reading and commenting!

The layout of this page is just gorgeous, especially Dr. Ambrosia's profile. The stories certainly are coming right out of him, aren't they? ^_^ Yays!

IKARA- thank you, I think by 'template style' you mean panel grids? Thank you for the nice comment. WING NUT- You got it ace- regular pencil drawings that are converted to sepia- a la Lackadaisy (a webcomic I love) It's a fun technique, I hadnt planned on using originally here. Thank you for the nice comments! OZONE- you are always too kind. I have to say that the most flattering and humbling comment is about the writing. That's the part I feel most anxious about. Just learning as I go! ELLE- Im always proud of you! ~B

BE PROUD OF ME Barb I remember to vote everrry day. :)

This story is proving more complex and better than I'd initially though possible (and I already thought it was gonna be pretty damn good), but the non linearness of this style is a lovely device that broadens things and hints at SO much! That's what I love about your work Barb: mastery of are and writing. Double whammy. Pro pencil work and I like his very aquiline look.
WingNut at 6:32PM, Sept. 26, 2007
Yeah, this comic is so beautifully done. And the sepia toned sketchy look? Astounding. Sketchpaper highlighted on computer I assume? It looks just like tone paper and conte that it's uncanny. As always a beautiful page. I'm gonna keep reading, maybe I'll pick up some tricks. ;D -W

I love the template style or lackthereof that you've done. It looks and flows beautifully :D

Spook. I'd totally do it for milk and cookies.

MLAI- Thank you. To see Sarah's comics (I'm sure you've heard of Inverloch?) go here: http://www.seraph-inn.com/ I hope to get a links page together for Kez soon. ~B

That glowing outline thing you do is a pretty neat trick. This Sarah person whose comic you're promoting... where do I find this comic?
iowabarbidoll at 4:27AM, Sept. 25, 2007
Oh and MISTERSPOOK- LOL! I guess I'm nostalgic for a time before "To Catch a Predator" and "America's Most Wanted" - the days before we assumed that all people were perverts. Of course, everyone IS now. ~B

ARTSANGEL: Thank you, Sarah! So glad to have you stop by. Two more days until TPR! I cant wait! JERLE: *Dun dun dun!!* MIDGE: Thank you again for your kind words! PURPLEPEOPLEEATER: I apologize for the story- this is my first foray into writing, and this prologue has been a very tricky way to start. Trying to move into the story as fast as I can, I'm sorry if it seems rushed. ~B

The art is wonderful. I felt like something was skipped in the story, though.

Remember kids, only visit strange, old men in magical rooms with your parents' permission... or the lure of a good story. ;)
TheMidge28 at 5:47PM, Sept. 24, 2007
nice exposition page...really helps provide some detail as to what has happened...the art work is beutiful as always...I love the idea of the closet door moving a reappearing...really magical!
Jerle at 4:07PM, Sept. 24, 2007
And the journey will soon begin... *ominous music begins*

The pencil work is gorgeous, Barb. Looks great ^_^

Thank you for the nice comments today. Really made me happy, they did! ^_^ IMAGINE: LOL! SOITBEGINS: Thank you again for faving Xylia! I hope you continue to enjoy it. AERIN: Exactly. And every other young person figuring things out. Next week you get to see teenage Charlie in all his cynical gawkiness. PEIPEI, HERO, & LIL: Thank you for the fives! HARRYQ: Thank you! MUTATION: Thanks- I think you mean the pencil stuff, am I right? I really enjoyed working on those. CHEEKO: One day, I hope to tell those stories. THis is really just a prologue set up right now, so unfortunately they must be left to the imagination. Maybe that's not so bad! VILLAMAR: EXACTLY! SIMON: HELLO!! Thank you for the very nice comments on this and the other pages, I'm glad you are enjoying my new story. DARWIN: Thank you for the fave! ^_^ ADOBEDRAGON: Thank you very much. TANTZ: Thank you very much- but I do want to be sure that you know that Ambrosia is no longer narrating. Charlie is. I'm sorry if that is unclear... CRAZYNINNY: Yeah, what's that kid thinkin'? Reality is so overrated.
crazyninny at 2:23PM, Sept. 24, 2007
Damn the need for the truth. >
Tantz_Aerine at 2:18PM, Sept. 24, 2007
I think this is one of your best pages yet. Great layout and I love the sketchy feel of the story images as Ambrose narrates. Well done!
littletrinks at 2:11PM, Sept. 24, 2007
hee, hee *big goofy grin* I like this page, makes me smile for some reason.
adobedragon at 1:58PM, Sept. 24, 2007
I like the top panel and his expression of childish wonder.

All right a new fave to add to my list!! Excellent!!
simonitro at 8:39AM, Sept. 24, 2007
I'm so getting into this story! At first, I haven't realized the face on the right! God, you do draw Xylia so beautiful!
