Well, the colour-search was tough but I've decided on… two people who tried out! Josh O'Neill, who did this lovely piece of work will be doing the chapter covers, and Dave Olson will be taking care of the innards.
Now strap in for a chapter that will rock your socks off (I hope).
There's a LOT of comments to respond to here, and it's just too daunting a task for me to undertake so I'll just say this: Anyone who's bothered to look at my profile before this page was uploaded knows my opinion of sprite comics. No, I don't like them. Yes, they CAN be done right, but 98% of the time, they aren't, so I don't bother with them. It's not because "spriters" are using someone else's work. If you can take someone else's creations and manipulate them effectively enough to make them your own, then that can be an art form in itself. However, a hefty majority of the one's I've seen have severely lacked in any form of quality.
Bottom line: everyone is entitled to their opiniion, including my fans who happen to make and/or enjoy sprite comics and including me with this page, and I'm not about to apologize for sharing mine. It's a matter of taste and taste differs from person to person. If you loved country music, and Zom-Ben's sign said "Stop Country Music", would you never read my comic again? I'm going to guess no. Also, this IS a joke, and not to be taken seriously or personally. I may not respect what you do, but I sure as hell respect your right to do it. And if you love doing sprite comics and are proud of what you're making, then I respect you for that.
If this truly offends you and you feel you don't want to read a comic made by a "sprite hater", that's your choice to make. There's the door. But it's always open if you ever want to come back.
I think I've filled my talking quota for quite some time. Goodnight.
I was actually going for the wise sage effect but heck it works...
Demynx, you have a point. An exaggerated point, but a slight one on the least. It will take custom stuff to challenge the best. And I'll go as far as group this comic as one of the best ('cause its true).
But taking stuff from other sources is common even in handdrawn. ((Recalls a Darkwing duck reference in this comic)) Sprite comics just do it far more that others. They are mainly fan comics after all.
It comes down to effort. Most non-spriters think of sprite comics as the low quality ones that are equalivent to handdrawn's stick figure comics. Little graphical effort and often little other effort. We just tend to get offended by people who think we are all lazy no talent hacks. We're not. Several spriters (Such as myself) Probably would save time and effort if we hand-drew instead of sprited. (I probably would).
And responding to PKMN Trainer Josh again: We're not just taking this crap anymore. We're not just going to demand respect, we're going to EARN it. But needless yelling isn't going to help.
Just you guys wait. We'll surprise you yet...
The oly way a sprite comic can challenge ANYTHING
near as a comic like these, is that the sprites and back grounds ad everything was made by the author, and not be taken out from videogames. Cause the its just not working for me.
Nah, not slang. Your post just amused me because I read it as if it were a stern mother reprimanding her child. "Josh, you gain nothing by being rude like that. Now start behaving or you won't get any ice cream". And I thought I'd share my joy with the world. It's interesting how different your intention and the way you're received can be when communication is limited to text alone. Shows how important body language is.
HEY! THEY GOT MORE SPRITE COMICS THAN DIS KINDA SH*T! I- NO, ME AND MY FELLOW SPRITERS, DEMAN RESPECT! YOU CAN'T BOSS US AROUND! WE'LL SEE YOU IN HELL! Oh, and get Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It's supposed to be really good
It's often more fun to act like you're taking things seriously.
You get odd reactions.
And maybe learn something.
Like the first-named part. There may be some internet slang I'm not aware of, So I asked.
But yeah no-one should take this personally.
I think it's interesting how people freak out and take personal offense when someone voices their opinion. Especially about sprite comics, I mean, webcomic artists have been criticizing them for years. It's not exactly something new.
???
Hmm?
I'm not angry at all.
And I'm not sure about the first naming thing either... Just shortened PKMN trainers josh and Empty Brooke's names. Thats all.
Josh, you gain nothing by being rude like that. Dispite the content this comic at the very least deserves a 2. I'm willing to assume the author has only seen the crappy sprite comics and has yet to see the well done ones.
You should do the same. I'm going to assume the same for you Empty. But time, and your response, will tell if its really lack of information that prompted this.
Ack forgot to rate.
And to add something.
There's a second reason not to anger the spriters... They're the guys you'd want to got to if you ever wanted to make ZomBen: the video game.
:)
Five cause I shouldn't penalyze for being ill informed.
And the rest it good.
You're missing a vital word.
Crappy.
It should be crappy sprite comics.
Once the spriting community finally realizes its full potential. There will be sprite comics that will rival the best stuff here.
Don't make the mistake of underestimating us.
We can be just as talented as you guys.
But the art it good. And Rather tasteful for such a message.
look at that pudance! you can't say "no" to that sad widdle zombie!
Only 10 cents a day can help feed a zombie a nourishing meal of sprite comic makers.
please give and help save these lonely forgotten ones.
