ghosts people compose the last sentient race in his universe. they compose almost 162 trillion in number. while they helped other races leave they cant leave themselves because they have evolved into a nitch in physics. the hybridization process in essense cuts away most of the volblkhelian's ability to respond to thier enviroment. (think having the ability to touch, taste, feel, or hear all cut away except for your ability to see) which tends to either drive them mad or cause them to implode. very few have survived the process (25 to date out of several thousand). when they were created they were made to battle violent biological menace that when they were made had consumed nearly half thier home universe. when you deal with huge numbers like that, 12 billion people doesnt sound like a lot. its still an atrocity though

p.s. panic drive is a volblkhelian version of an adrenalin rush. he drops all available stored matter into his core and uses the massive influx of energy to power whatever device they have at the time. in this case ghost powered his outer body casing. in this case the humanish body is propelling itself over 800 miles an hour, and it is comming apart.
