you're right rw, ghost is pretty much a self contained unit. however. that body he's stored in is part of the hybridization package that prevents him from running amuck near large quantities of matter. it also allows him to travel through demensional barriers without going supernova. the whole reason his people cant travel outside thier rapidly deterorating universe

The question now is where does ghost (Ian?) "live". I was under the impression that the body we see is just a construct that he uses for convenience. Releasing the black hole might make ghost even more dangerous. We know that there is a great deal inside the black hole, since Nora went there once.
