YAY! DD has updated on time with its first range of changes, thanks to our programmer Alexey!
What we have here now are:
1. Comic Statistics: these update once a day at 5am PST (to reduce server load), and show hits on a graph.
2. Comic image links: You can use images in your comic links again without errors!
3. Comic forum posting: This should FINALLY be a bit easier without having to know advanced forum-foo techniques. Browser spellchecks will work, links should work without being mangled. spaces AND line breaks will work without having to insert HTML crappery!
4. PQ notifications - This isn't here yet but I'm told it should come in around about tomorrow. I will stake a bit to code in still.
Please give us ideas for the next round of fixes and features for the site!!!!

I think the active/on hiatus/complete mouseover was my idea, but whoever came up with it, I'd definitely agree that we want to make the status of the comic (and it's number of pages?) obvious but *not* filter out the older on hiatus titles. Some of them are really good and still worth reading. The ability to filter by number of pages and last updated would be great too. And while we're asking for stuff it'd be awesome to have the last post and post count info back for the forums (especially the former). 'NEW' flags would be over and above.

And how about allowing the creators a chance to have one of the three PW ad boxes for themselves so that we creators and have an opportunity to earn some money off of our own comics. Without that option if a creator wants to try and earn a bit of money from their comic the only option they have is to leave DD and start their own site. Dee

@PaulEberhartd: I actually have a similar idea tucked away, although I can't remember who made the initial suggestion! I was thinking it would be neat to have all comics flagged as active/on hiatus/complete, with the hiatus category being applied automatically if a comic is inactive for a certain amount of time. I don't really like the idea of replacing Quail's random with completed comics because I want the front page of the site to be dynamic, but maybe people could search for comics tagged as completed. And comics marked as "on hiatus" could be kept out of the Quail's Random selection. In any case, additional features like that will probably have to be saved for after we fix existing bugs.

I had another idea the other day: it may be worth considering an option to mark a comic as "completed". The next step would be to rig Quail's Random to show these completed comics exclusively. That way we'd get rid of the frequent complaint that QR mostly shows ancient comics that have been abandoned after one or two pages and stuff. The reasoning behind it is that completed comics basically have no other way of appearing on the front page ever again. Many of them would deserve it and I can see no fault in rewarding those enviable artists who manage to pull their project through to the end. You'd activate the "complete" tag by notifying the admins who put it into the next News post. That would avoid misuse - not that anyone would do that, of course. ;) In the same vein there could also be a feature that, when activated, automatically dispatches notifications of milestones to the news bloggers.

I'm not going to suggest to fix the problem with the top bar covering up part of the comic header, since it can easily remedied by simply adding 25 pixels of blank space to your banner like I did. I haven't yet tried if the Subpages feature works better, now that the forums have undergone some improvement, but it'd be nice. I used to have some problems with broken links and weird quirks in the formatting. I'd appreciate, too, if subpages open in a new tab automatically so you don't lose track.

Genejoke means that queued comics should appear in the recently updated list. They stopped doing that a while ago. This will be something to fix. There are some great suggestions here. Please keep them coming! BTW - PQ notifications work now!!!!!!!! Alexey just fixed that.

The option to input the author's comment as HTML in a pop-out window seems to have disappeared (or moved some place I can't find?). This really limits the blogging capability of DD. Any way to get it back?

Good suggestions, keep them coming! @meejar- you have to wait till 5am US PST. @Hippie- that part isn't quote fixed yet because the counter isn't attached to the top ten yet but it will be looked at. @Genejoke- I'm not sure about colour changes, that would need serious thought. @Meemjar- who says the Duck and Quail were guys to begin with? ;)

The stats are here! Farewell, blissful ignorance! Hmm, something else that needs fixing: The Comics Search only shows the first page of comics by rank, and then defaults to an alphabetic listing. That's kinda odd and useless.

Great stuff! In regards to the links fix, could we get rid of the "Miscellaneous" text on top of the left links image? It looks kinda ugly and I don't think we really need it.
