Comics and their creators have actually been prominent in the news recently.
There was the comic book creator Rebecca Burke who was was detained in ICE detention facilities in the US for a couple of weeks due to some problems with the type of visa she was trying to enter Canada (from the US) on. She has now been banned from entering the US for ten years.
It all seems like a big over-reaction to confusion about whether doing light chores in exchange for room and board constitutes paid work. Being a comic book creator Burke has drawn a lot about her ordeal, and is working on a longer comic about it. You can read her account here …

NASA recently deleted a comic book from its website called First Woman : NASA's Promise for Humanity written by Brad Gunn and Steven List, and illustrated by Brent Donoho and Kaitlin Reid.
The comic had been online on NASA's site since 2021, and told the fictional account of Callie Rodrigez as a future first woman on the moon. It appears the comic was removed as part of the wider anti-DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness)* initiatives in US Government departments. NASA has also removed any reference to its previous commitment to land the first woman and first person of colour on the moon as part of the Artemis project.
You can still read the comics (there are two issues), however, and even download them, from Wikimedia Commons.

*I think spelling out in full what DEI stands for is important, as three letters may be easy to dismiss, but those three words are a little harder to toss out without thought.

@Banes: Yeah, we would hope, but whenever people raised the alarm on this BS we got accused of fearmongering. Nothing they're doing is a shock, it's what they said they would do even before he got elected. This is Project 2025 in action, that thing that incurious, gullible morons insisted was fake even though it had a website, a paper trail, training videos and a gaggle of Trump administration behind it. Water is dry in MAGAt world if Dear Leader says so, we are in the stranglehold of a literal cult that has untethered itself from material reality.

Shocking times we live in...this seems like the kind of culture we'd have left behind decades ago.

It's also supposed to be DEIA, for Accessibility, which the GOP conveniently dropped from the acronym because that's one that people aren't afraid of. Unfortunately even spelling it out, these folks are against diversity, they're confused about the concept of equity, and the inclusion... they might have to work with a woman! Or a transgender person! Who will have opinions and because they're being INCLUDED, we'll be forced to listen to them, it will undo so much fearmongering! The fascist regime is here and I'm tired of people moving the goalpost on what that is. It has a solid definition! It's not subject to opinion! We indulged and coddled people who think reality can be debated, and now we're here. The frog isn't even being boiled anymore, it's COOKED. (On a different note, I appreciate the Pathe newsreel reference for this, time is a flat circle)

Tell it like it is: all of this is because of Dictator Drumpf; don't sugarcoat it. ICE is his personal Gestapo. I read the news about Becca, because everybody was totally dumbfounded that ICE would have detained a white British woman, when they clearly are targeting mostly Hispanics and Latinx right now, but I read nowhere in any of these stories that she was a comic artist. As for the NASA comic, again, Dictator Drumpf is doing all he can to make sure the websites of these government agencies remove any and all references to women, people of color, Jews, the LGBTQ+ community, and anything remotely related to not just DEI but also CRT; his claims is these all encourage racism/sexism/homophobia/anti-Semitism/whatever, but we ALL know the truth - actual Retardican politicians have said the quiet part out loud, that this is all part of their efforts to put "competent white people back in charge."

That's shlt about that person being detained.

It's not much of a surprise, I assume if NASA wants to remain operational it needs to get funded by congress and realistically speaking they prefer to have a future even if it means conforming to whatever the sitting government expects of them. Still, it's "funny", because it's likely that the same people are in support of this who used to cry "violation of freedom of speech" when some of them got deplatformed from twitter for hate speech.

The difference in people's reaction to DEI versus Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in well documented. People are also surprised when they find out it also applies to disability and age. So if one was a black 50ish gay woman in a wheel chair she'd be super duper screwed over especially since they're cutting Veterans benefits through DOGE and she's probably a veteran too.
