Looks like the drill bit is not the only thing getting hot in the first panel :) Being able to put your first bookshelf up (and having it _stay_ up) has to be one of the most satisfying (and defining) moments of being independent Sometimes it takes moving out to be able to 'live' with family

Kind of reminds me of me and my dads renewal.. I remmeber how hard it was to get along with him, we could go a day without fighting, screaming or cussing at each other.. and now hes not so bad.. hes actually turned out to be a pretty awsome dad :)

I love this page. It reminds me of my dad and I. We fought a lot because Mom and I didn't see eye to eye (he didn't like me telling her I wasn't who she thought I was because we'd end up in yelling matches). In the end, he turned out to be my ally in moving out/growing up. Mother is the one who has put me through hell and back with her weigh teasing/homophobia.It took me moving a few states over and moving in with my then fiance for her to realize that 1)I am who I am and that is not Her and 2) Homosexuality is not a disease that one can catch. ~.~

lol I agree with DAJB, you never forget your first electric drill. I, for one, still love just seeing it whirl around. Too bad I'm so terrible at using one ^^;

Ah, power tools. I am a total pantywaist around power tools, any time I tangle with them I usually end up at the local A & E (being left-handed doesn't help). My g/f is tiny and petal-like, and cheerfully punches huge holes through walls, looking very fetching is protective gear. So much for gender-typing. Loving S_S as always, now moved to the Fens, and might even start my webcomic up again. I post on DD so infrequently I have to open a new account each time as I've forgotten the password - I think I was NSFW last time I posted? Anyway, I'm a great fan, keep up the good work!

parents are always like that. They hurt you for years, and mock you when you yell back about how mean and abusive they are- but when you move away they are all - "we-we did a good job right?" " you know we love you-right?" Thanks for all the abuse, yeah through all the yells about how Im a pathetic loser whore I totally understood you love me. YEah. ..........great page anyway- sorry about that.

Glad that he's in a good mood today - maybe her moving out has made him take a step back and realize what an arse he's been to his wife and daughter and that maybe he shouldn't be taking his frustrations out on them. One needs to find an outlet for one's anger, some kind of creative outlet that keeps it from spilling over onto one's loved ones. Art is a good one, if you are inclined that way; destruction of things another - if you can't create pretty things, find something that needs renovating or removing and tear it down! LOL Carl E., I also hope that your daughter comes to terms with you - it is terrible to have distance between oneself and one's parents. But what does one do when it is one's parent who seems intent on ignoring one's presence? I've been hospitalized three times in the past two years and haven't received so much as a phone call or letter from my dad asking if I'm OK. He doesn't send letters or cards, nor does he call, for Xmas or my birthday or any other holiday for that matter and it seems if I don't do the reaching out, reaching out doesn't get done. Story of my life, really - I'm always the one doing the reaching and it gets bloody old after awhile. Why can't people reach out to me once in awhile?? No, that's unfair - I do have one friend who reaches out to me. Speaking of, I owe her a letter or a call or, at the least, an e-mail. *facepalm* Never mind my rant ;-)

Sometimes it takes a little distace for the participants to cool down enough to really see what's going on. Remember, no matter how much of an asshole your father seems to be, somewhere in there is the love of a parent for his child. I just hope that someday my daughter realizes this, too.

Hmmm the start of a reconciliation seems imminent, its nice he started reconciliation with you but your Mom needs to be receiving those same attempts. Glad you're back from Holiday safe and sound, always worry about people driving long distances over there. You know how those Brits are always driving on the wrong side of the road, and expecting every one to like it. Damn fool driver near killed me the first time I ventured out on a Pub Crawl, I was to meet friends at The Cittie of York on High Holborn, easy to find they said, they forgot to mention no parking and idiot drivers who kept coming at me on the wrong side of the road. Actually it wasn't that bad..and anyone going to London I do recommend that Pub as fit for an Emperoress.
