SS4 147 Shellshocked

Amber: you were right to be worried.
*stands on podium holding ‘most romantic’ award and squirming*We won just one trophy in the Duck Awards this year and it had to be this one didn't it!! lol
I'm cruel I know and tbh I've wrestled with this moment for a over a year but SS seems to write itself sometimes and the feeling that Janey's sexual explorations were getting out of hand just seemed to lead here anyway. They say that a forest fire allows for fresh growthand that's where we are now, in the ashes.
I have to give credit to Lunaris for part of the script on this page. She told me a story ages ago about a guy who was caught out by a mobile phone call and the thought fitted so well with this part of the storyline that I felt a desire to adapt it.
Next week: Sarah's reaction, Janey's guilt and Claire's last twist of the knife.
hope you have a nicer week!

@LV: I think we all have pictures in our heads of what we think they are doing (I prefer to spell think h-o-p-e), but I'm sure Sky will make it worth seeing. Why can't I insert an evil grin emoticon?
comic_didi at 5:49PM, Oct. 11, 2012
Woooo... hint for next page! I'm glad to know there will be consequences or that we'll at least witness said consequences. Too many stories don't touch on any or jump ahead like whoa. Leaving you wonder what exactly happened. And for someone who is really into details, that type of stuff drives me nuts. Even if they opted to reconcile right after or break up, I just wanna see how it all plays out. Not have to guess, you know? I know I said I was abandoning ship but it's more like it's dead in the water. Right now, I'm neutral. I don't think I'll take it hard if they never get back together or do get back together.

Knowing Sky, the new page is still going to be worth seeing. I dread it on one hand, but on the other...I can't wait. It's been entirely too long since I saw my Janeykins.
oldironside at 1:39PM, Oct. 11, 2012
By the way, any chance of a look at Claire in the altogether? She's not really the type to snatch a sheet to cover herself.
oldironside at 1:31PM, Oct. 11, 2012
@Sky: Damn, you've told us Saturday's cliffhanger resolution. I was looking forward to being proved right. Glad to know it's not a damp squib. Keep up the good work.
skyangel at 10:01AM, Oct. 11, 2012
Aceina: Hi, What a place to join in huh:) Ever since I started doing this comic I noticed that the stats (when they worked!) always went through the roof when people's emotions were at their height as on this page here. The Jane Blonde and Xmas spoofs I did got a good reception at the time but nobody has ever begged for more like they do for SS. From what I've learnt from doing this, it's that people love cliffhangers; they loved it when Janey asked way back in chptr 1 who the 'J' was on Sarah's schoolbook, the moment when Sarah came out to her mum, and the day Janey got pushed in front of a van. It hasn't always been so spectacular but as often as I could I've tried to leave the reader with something at the end of the page that makes them want to come back, and five years down the line SS is still a comic with a pretty strong audience so I admit that reading the whole of SS in one go is pretty heavy going but as a weekly read it probably feels much more comfortable.

@Skye Janey x Sarah 4 Lyfe! X3
skyangel at 9:40AM, Oct. 11, 2012
I really do feel that without having done this my enthusiasm and your interest would have died together. I could have had a happy ending here for all just as in previous chapters but I could see chapter five being a similar chapter to this one with troubles for Stacey, Nikki continuing and more bickering about Sarah's involvement with either. As it stands now, Sarah's going to be heading into the singles life for the first time in her life and all her friends can have reasonably happy and contented lives for a change. Janey's going to be out of the picture for almost all of that chapter but we will still follow Sarah's feelings and thoughts with regard to her and if you lot feel at the end of chapter five that these two still have a place together, it could be one of the greatest love stories you've ever read, who knows.

OMG I didn't expect to look in and find this huge debate going on! I've taken a break from working on the Xmas story to look in and I'm pretty stunned by all these comments. I almost feel I ought to apologise for having done this, but yes to clarify a little, Claire is in bed with Janey which will at least put some imaginations to rest. I know this is high drama but for most of SS the storyline has been about the test of love. Not often happy mushy romantic love like we would all love to enjoy but real love that comes when two people care enough abouth each other and their relationship to either face the world together or accept each others differences. At this point in time Janey has caused enough damage to ruin the relationship completely and it's going to be the ultimate test of Sarah's love and it's certainly not going to be overnight forgiveness if she does.

DV: The author/artist is basically telling that we're right to imagine the worst. And who better than them would know what we're in for? You can't even say they're being coy about this. It's straight out. Hell, look at the author comment up there. skyangel plainly says that her inspiration about this part is based off this common story about a guy catching his girlfriend cheating. But going off just the comic: It's not just Sarah crying in the last part. It's someone cursing in a way that shows someone was busted doing something. Even if you assume it's not the worst, they're obviously doing something that at least one of them knew would upset Sarah. That's still ripe with drama and problems right there.

I miss one update and come back to 3 pages of text, wow!
DarkVisor at 12:17PM, Oct. 10, 2012
OIS: all this dramatic buildup could still just all be in Sarah's head. For all that Janey has the brain injury, Sarah has been the one acting like the one with mental problems. Personally, liking the idea of Janey/Claire hooking up, but that would mean Sarah would be all on her own and seeing how this is her story (or at least the primary character), just don't really see that happening
DarkVisor at 12:12PM, Oct. 10, 2012
Not saying that nothing happened, just that everyone is already imagining the worst thing it could possibly be. It's no doubt it's more than likely either over or at the least on the final straw. But so far all we have this week is: Claire has something more important on her mind than to answer her phone, some giggles and Sarah crying. And next week we will have: Sarah's reaction (we _all_ know she has a habit of blowing things out of proportion to the size that would dwarf a habitable moon), Janey's guilt (with Sarah being 'such a gentle flower' Janey could be made to feel guilty for buying the wrong bread) and Claire's last twist of the knife (it's not like she isn't a manipulative cow who would say anything {truth, lies or both} to hurt Sarah, specially if Sarah has gotten Janey finally to kick her to the curb)
arici at 2:02AM, Oct. 10, 2012
@LV Certainly, some couples can get past it, but nonetheless it will never be the same again. There will always be that tiny little doubt when she can't reach her, even if there is totally plausible reason. And this little doubt will be nagging at both of them. On Sarah, because she won't be able to completely trust her and Janey because on the one hand she will be annoyed that Sarah doesn't trust her even if she's seriously and honestly sorry or beecause she can't really forgive herself. Apart from that, it will be necessary for Janey to cut all contact with Claire if they give it another shot and I'm not so sure she'll like the thought of it. It's a complicated situation for both of them. Janey will know for herself that she's done wrong but she will be annoyed that Sarah is reproaching her for her mistake because she KNOWS already it was the wrong thing to do. Am I making this clear? She's already feeling guilty and even though Sarah has every right to be pissed it'll be annoying
Lunaris Victoria at 9:43PM, Oct. 9, 2012
@didi I'm still shipping Sarah and Janey for life. It's a stupid and horrible mistake to cheat on someone like that, but it happens, and some couples can get past it. I'm still rooting for a happily ever after for our main duo.
comic_didi at 9:40PM, Oct. 9, 2012
Gah... I need to just checking this. It's just starting the pissed off process over again... I just can't believe this crap. Today is the day I have officially abandoned ship. Usually I'm a canon shipper but not anymore. I might ship Sarah with someone else now. Maybe Stacy...
Lunaris Victoria at 3:45PM, Oct. 9, 2012
Yeah, I think this time it's well and truly clear. Janey has screwed the pooch...in so many words. Though pooch probably isn't the dog synonym I'd prefer to use for Claire.
oldironside at 1:24PM, Oct. 9, 2012
"If this turns out to be nothing more than Claire giving Janey a pedi/mani-cure or a swedish massage" then there was absolutely no reason for Sarah to burst into tears or for all the dramatic build up we've been through for the last two weeks. If it is nothing sexual then it needs to be something else earth shattering or I for one will feel I've been taken for a ride (insert your own rude joke here). Next week Janey's guilt and Claire's twist of the knife. You don't do that over a massage or a pedicure and if you spend your life avoiding the obvious answer you will allow people to treat you like a fool. "Who you gonna believe, woman? Me or your lying eyes?" as Richard Prior once said.
DarkVisor at 12:54PM, Oct. 9, 2012
If this turns out to be nothing more than Claire giving Janey a pedi/mani-cure or a swedish massage (that's the full naked one, isn't it?) then there will loud laughing aimed all the negative-nellies (of course, if they are the correct ones, well, it will be a sad day {not because they were correct, but because Janey did bad})
roycemarie at 3:25AM, Oct. 9, 2012
I knew this would happen someday. It is a part of life, and they are young. Still, I hate it. I am a happily ever after sort of girl. And although I am older now, I can remember the heartache, the feeling of the knife in my heart. Poor Sarah! She won't die, but for a time, it will feel like it. A hard, but true slice of life. Thank you, Skye, for not coping out.
