SS7 63 Late night chat

When I wrote the script for this page I thought it would be nice to have the girls reminisce over happier times before they split up and I went back over the archive to check how Janey's mum's kitchen looked and then thought how nice it would be to ‘redo’ a similar shot to compare how my art has developed over the years.
What seems most strange to me is that I often felt so pleased with my art at the time even though I cringe to look back on it now, but by comparison even though I now feel I've improved so much over the years, I'm far more picky and fussy about my art than I have ever been!
It's not a bad thing though as I always think that feeling of ‘being able to do better’ is a god incentive to keep making more art!
Thanks for all the lovely comments left last week, they are as always the best incentive of all! :)

I'm not usually one to comment but I re-read everything start to finish when you take a break, between 6 and 7 I think I read every page 5 or 6 times Thanks as always and please keep up the awesome work :)

Dylan: Wow! That's the sort of comment that inspires one to dive straight into a new story! Somebody left a comment a few weeks ago saying they had just started the archive and my immediate thought is always that with such a vast archive to go through, can anyone find the stamina and enthusiasm to make it! But I'm glad you posted, it's made my day:)

Nice little echo back to the very start of this tale, and yes, Sky, your artwork has developed. Oh and I like the fact the fridge now has pictures on it. And the detail of Janey taking her meds. Nice quiet strip, slightly, melancholic of the girls reminiscing about times past. And I'm still wondering where Janey's hoping this leads.

Fruitbat: When I jumped back to see how the kitchen looked at the start I was quite shocked to see how little detail I'd put in! It's also interesting to compare Becky's much more sophisticated colouring technique to my early 'airbrush' type style! As for Janey's hopes and intentions, were on the verge of finding out in about 3 pages time. :)

NicandBen: I'm not sure if Ben feels the same way about his art but I absolutely loathe looking at my early stuff because it just makes me cringe! I've known some artists to go back and totally redraw earlier pages to give the whole story more consistency and I did consider that myself at one point but our wonderful readers talked me out of it. It wasn't until I read one of Herge's early Tintin strips that I realised it's just as important for readers to be able to see how the art evolves too.

Hmmm... nice page and we all reminisce, but... / ..the difference in the art is amazing, seeing that old panel. I think a LOT of us have the same story to tell about our artwork. Even though I enjoyed doing the Birdman stuff, early on, I just knew I could never start B.E. until I was much, much better. So it was on the 'backburner', until it became attempt #4

Bear: I suppose logically, whatever you do whether doing art, learning to play an instrument of whatever your interest lies in, the simple fact you keep trying to master something has to pay off eventually. What I find most interesting is that I can still draw what feels like some pretty appalling stuff at times and I still keep telling myself this whole archive is just part of my learning curve towards a better comic strip in the future!

....I actually went back and re-read the first 10 pages B-)

This is so sweet! Its also nice how we get a insight of Janeys side of the events... Having little chats about precious memories are the best. At the same time, it puts Sarah in the position where she might start thinking/romantizizing the relationship they had back then. Going back to an ex must be at the right terms... But i think the fact they're both together now could help since they can both rationalize it together as adults. I know Sarah is also in a relationship so going back to Janey would be a huge risk, at the same time, its a really strange situation because of Lucys ex... Im not really envying Sarah here, she has to make a tough decision.

Cathlinn: This is definitely a turning point for Sarah. For most of the chapter she has been making cutting remarks towards Janey every time her resentment resurfaces, along with her commitment to stay with Lucy but as you've noticed things are changing for Sarah now both within her control and beyond it.
