SS7 122 Things that fester

This page was very loosely inspired by ‘Bound’ but unfortunately without all the lovely sexual innuendo that made that scene so enjoyably memorable.

As Midnight Baelfire so aptly noted in her comment last week, Sarah's just as pre-occupied with her own problems as she was with Janey and missing the warning signs of Nikki heading for a meltdown. Unfortunately her bad mood has just been enough to tip Nikki over the edge as we shall see in the coming pages!

On a somewhat different note, I have to admit I've been quite taken aback by the response to the most recent pages! Throughout this whole chapter I've been thinking that the Lenore story was the most interesting thing we had to offer and yet since we wrapped it up and got back to Sarah's normal everyday life again our viewing figures have actually gone up rather than down! So it just goes to show, you can never really pre-guess the audience reaction. But thanks as always for making SS such an enjoyable experience for us too.

Oh hey! I got a shout out! Cool! Lol ty. I've been wondering about Nikki since they went to the club to be honest, she's been such a good friend and Sarah is using her as an emotional venting bag, with no regard to her feelings. And then to pull that last Comment out like Nikki's past wasn't traumatic at all. I meant to ask weeks ago: is Nikki okay with the other girls calling her Nik? It is technically her dead name, even if they (mostly apparently) see her as a girl.

Midnight Baelfire: Haha Your welcome, it really was such an inciteful observation! When I read your first comment I did wonder if you were Becky in disguise as you seem to know exactly what's coming! That's an interesting question actually because her male name is Nick as you know, but as most people have a habit of reducing names to as few syllables as possible it makes Nikki sound like her male name again despite writing it as Nik. I suppose it's best to assume she's okay with it and would ask to be called by her full name if it bothered her too much. But I will try and use her full name more often from now on where it sounds okay to.

Bound was a really good movie, had it's grim moments though, by Golly it had its grim moments. Okay, I hope this page doesn't trigger another spat like the 'Colours' page did awhile back, but hasn't Sarah just pressed someone's buttons but good!

Fruitbat: I do remember Bound being pretty scary in places but my memory always seems to let that plumbing sequence steal my attention! lol As you will see, Sarah is all apologetic now so there won't be any huge arguments, in fact quite the reverse because Sarah's guilt is going to slowly deepen.

Burnt Nostalgia: I read this comment on my phone during the week so I couldn't leave an immediate reply but what you have written here really moved me. I have become deeply invested in my characters because they allow me to express my own feelings by recreating situations I've been in personally or imagined being in and it's helped me a lot to do that so it feels really nice to think someone reading can get that same benefit too. I have a nice ending planned for Nikki as I feel she really deserves it :)

God I have lived through this scene so many times! One needs to blow off steam and the other (usually me, sadly) responds with unsolicited advice. And a nasty hurtful fight results between the two where the original issue is completely forgotten. That last comment by Sarah is way out of bounds and is I'm afraid going to cause permanent damage; you can't just apologize and move on from that one.

Fred: Awww! In my experience it just depends on the personality of the person you are sharing with. Most people I know offer advice but what does get my back up is when they say 'What you need to do is...' which sounds like I'd be stupid not to do as I'm told.

Carora: I wondered that too! Half of me thought readers might think Nikki is over reacting (next page)so it's nice so many of you picked up on that.

Sky, I have to admit I was not a fan of the Lenore storyline. My account is new but I've been reading this comic since Sarah lived with the Cranberry's. I found myself just skimming the pages if I saw that it was a Lenore update, then didn't care to take the time to read them after the first few. I like this comic for its slice-of-life, comfortable atmosphere and the whole side plot about some dead witch didn't really add much to the overall story IMO. I'm happy that we're back to focusing on the characters back in the here and now!

ili: I must admit I had enough going on with Lucy and Laura anyway and as you say it was a big departure from the slice of life story line this comic is better known for, so that's a very valid comment. I did recently look over the last chapter again to see if I could separate the two stories but there's so much of Sarah's life linked to the search that I decided it's best left alone. But it does feel nice to just concentrate on the normal story again.

Also, got to say that Sarah's comment to Nikki was cold. Sarah's so caught up in wanting to vent that she is willing to throw such an insult. Not a good move for her.

These last few pages have been really great! Wow, an ex's parent giving the blessing to wed is crazy awkward, even more so than the guilt tripping. I think it's good for Sarah to know a bit more about Janey's background and for Mrs. Donovan to admit her hand in this. I do got to admit, though, with all of the loss she was coping with, Mrs. Donovan's reluctance to allow Janey a blood transfusion after the accident makes me really wonder if the religion has made her so crazy she was willing to risk losing another family member.

Gemi: I did enjoy writing that tea and chat scene but it's been made all the more enjoyable by reading everyone's reactions to it. Some comment's, like your own pick up on stuff I hadn't even thought about myself.------ Good memory on that transfusion event which was way back in chapter two, and a very good point too. That was based on Jehovah beliefs and actual incidents of similar concern in real life so yea, the power of religion can be scary at times.
