SS7 127 In Safe Hands

This is the last time we will be seeing poor Nikki in this horrible state and just as well because when I look at these last two finished pages I feel like trying to wipe them clean with a damp cloth!
Next week, Nikki's all cleaned up apart from her bruises but the effect of the attack is deeper than Sarah imagined.
On other topics, Tantz-Aerine wrote an interesting article this week about the ‘Power of Comments’ and what it means to the comic makers. The enthusiasm of the readers has always been that special ingredient which has kept this comic alive for so long. We've lost followers along the way and upset a few too at times but overall for those that have wandered off and the new readers that have stumbled upon us we've always enjoyed a fairly close connection with our readership, especially those that relate directly to our characters situations, and that's a really nice feeling especially for me as the writer. Nikki's circumstances at the moment are about as grim as one can get in an LGBT story but in order to wrap this party up and leave the audience with the best feeling possible I wanted our little roller coaster to hit the floor just before it climbs up and goes sailing towards the rainbows end. So good stuff is a coming! :)

BurntNostalgia: That's one of the nicest comments anyone has ever left on the comic so thank you! Over the 14 years we have been doing this it's understandable that we would lose old readers and gain new ones along the way. I think the biggest drop we had was when Janey cheated on Sarah as a lot of readers were heavily invested in them being together forever but to keep the comic interesting I felt we needed to explore more options. -----But Nikki has always been my most interesting character and one who's had the most volatile readership of all, which did come as a bit of a shock to me at first because I hadn't realised how sensitive some trans issues were. In her early days some readers thought Nikki was only around for Sarah and Janey to make fun of which led to some pretty passionate posts at times and that did hurt as I've always been as fond of Nikki as I am of all my characters. This whole thing has been an amazing experience for me though so I wouldn't change any of it.

It is tough seeing Nikki so badly beaten, but the depiction is realistic. No one should be treated in such a manner. Thanks for handling such a sensitive topic with care.

DueEast: Thanks for that. I feel like a party pooper for going down this path so close to Christmas but I didn't want to cut this event out as this stuff does happen and it doesn't always make headline news.

Typo in Sarah's speech balloon in frame 7! You've done a really fine job on this storyline, Sky.

MidnightBaelfire: Thanks for that! It makes me cringe to think I made such an obvious spelling error, and cringe even more to admit I never noticed it even when I was looking for the mistake!! It's corrected though now :)

5th panel? Should be your instead of you're. English was my best class in school and I still type the wrong one sometimes lol.

I've been following SS for about 6 years now, and I've always appreciated its realism- good, bad, and in between. This episode happens to be bad, but all too real. Well done.

Fred: I know you have and I really appreciate all the positive support you've given us over the years, and always with really heartfelt comments. It's a bit close to Christmas for such a downbeat episode for sure but the New Year will bring a fresh new start for Nikki :)
