They exist all around unable to touch the mortal world. By contract they cannot physically interfere unless there's a pact and trade made. That contract is near to expiring and the mortal world has moved into blissful ignorance and skepticism of such a thing ever existing. As the sun sinks and shadows grow spirits and demons that roamed the world before life ever blossomed here are rising.
