About

First, a little history about DorWei.
I (the Doris half) met Wei-ling when we were about fourteen years old and the first thing I remember about her was being incredibly JEALOUS of her mad art skills. Luckily being jealous didnt stop us from discovering we were going to be great friends who shared all the best (best to a teenage girl, anyway) books (fantasy), art (unicorns and elves and beautiful maidens with giant, anime eyes), Sailor Moon.
She drew swirling masterpieces in the lines of her notebooks; I made my best attempt at the Best Fantasy Novel Ever (it wasnt.)
Fifteen years later after going to high school, college, and into the working world together we one day said something to each other that I dont know why we didnt say before.
Lets COLLABORATE on something!
What a brilliant idea! Our ideas would take the best from each of us into a blindingly awesome piece of work. We worked out a story; it was going to beepic, we were going to create a graphic novel with madness and death mixed equally with angst and badassness. Alan Moore himself would call us up to congratulate us. It was going to be the next 300 adaptation to a movie. The story was great. The story washuge.
..
Turns out huge, epic stories are really hard to write and draw.
Wei-ling asked, Do you realize this introduction you wrote is going to be like, thirty pages?
Me, being a newbie to this whole writing-with-accompanying-pictures said Oh, no. Look you miscounted, theres like, four, max.
Wei-Ling: NO. In pictures, thats 30 pages. And you made it all stuff thats really hard to draw.
Me: Seriously?
Pause for a minute. We decided then to scale back our epic vision to something a little less daunting; a weekly strip that would get us writing and drawing consistently. Wed aim to focus on topics we were already pretty confident on, so we could really get a strip out every week. To that end we came up with these lists:
THINGS WEI-LING DRAWINGK THAT ARE REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD LOOKING
(condensed version)

scales. feathers. LONG FLOWING GIRL HAIR
pretty women durrrrrr :D Smexy robes that leave only a few things to the imagination
real or mythical creatures in the graceful category (deer, unicorns, snakes, phoenix)
fantasy creatures (medusa, angels)

THINGS DORIS LIKES TO WRITE WORDS FOR:

epic tales of valor and- (No! bad Doris! No epics!!)

Right, no more epics. Looking at the list I started mulling around the idea of what story ideas would pull all that together. Swirly fabrics; mythical settings. MEDUSA.
Wei-ling and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the movie Clash of the Titans the original Harry Hamlin version especially so. It confirmed (or started) the love of so many things; magic; flying horses, chunky jewelry, sword fights, and monsters. We latched onto the Medusa idea (and mind you, we were really scared of the movie monster version as little kids) right away; shes just so compelling a character. Then idea of Medusa had a direct railroad collision with a storyline brewing in the back of my head for what Id write about if I ever wrote a romance novel, about a girl who cant get a date working for the ultimate love god himself, Cupid.
Smash, BANG, the idea was born; its just so much fun to play around with mythological characters and trying to see them in a new light. And it developed into the perfect project to hone our skills; learning to tell a story in only a few lines or no words at all, getting faster and better at drawing the art. Not to mention the perseverance of learning just how and how much work it will take to put out a strip every week. Wei-ling built this incredible website and starting creating all this gorgeous art; and when I sat down and thought about the story possibilities, I got even more excited because theres just so many to tell!
Weve already learn so much doing this, and were going to be developing our skills even more as time goes on. The best part? Its SO MUCH FUN. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Cheers!

Poor Maddie. She’s been down on her luck lately – she’s gone from a fearsome demi-goddess warrior to downright unemployable after that whole Perseus incident. And thanks to her EX-boyfriend Poseidon spreading rumors, everyone in Olympus knows the whole embarrassing story! Her only humiliating option is to accept a fluff job at Love, Inc., to help mortals fall in love. It’s a tough career change, especially when she’s surrounded by pretty, perfect, and catty nymphs who just won’t let Maddie forget she doesn’t fit in.
