I would like to come in here and say this. I didn't have a big problem with getting volunteers. The response was about equal to last year's. I checked. However, the reason why I need volunteers again now is because there are some people that didn't check their PQ box until the last second and had to back out. And to the awards having theme/done by the same person...one volunteer, and I won't say who until the awards are out, made the presentations for all of the technical awards.
Thanks, ayesinback. It IS an alternative to the DD Awards. This whole flareup started because a couple of DDers have gut fears that we might seize the total control of the Drunk Duck Awards for ourselves and exclude everyone else at this site, which is not the case--NOT TO MENTION hashing over everything that they think we are doing wrong. It was sounding to me for a bit, after the mention of taking this to the DD Forum, that they were trying to corral us into giving over control of our own project. Now hear this: certain people have lost sight of the fact that **I** am the hostess of the 2011 Comic Awards. **I** am the "Sponsored By" note in the final credits. This is being hosted on **MY** Duck account, and therefore I am the final moderator. An awards show has to have SOME semblance of civility and courtesy. Any further sniping will be moderated. That goes for both sides. Go read some other comics if you don't like it.
uh, hi - So I've been reading all along, and thought I might as well comment on This Page (cuz it could easily get lost in the sauce). anyways, I wasn't around for the 2010 DD awards--all I really know is that with all of the site stuff this year, Niccea has been fighting (and gaining ground, imo) in an uphill battle to continue a tradition. In the mean time, I have really enjoyed reading these pages, somewhat (mistakenly?) understanding them as an alternative, but not a replacement to the DD awards. Whatever - congrats on doing your thing, and doing it really well.
harkovast you just said that what we did here was dumb, now where i come from that is a slam. it's our show, we will do it our way! if you don't like any of it quit reading it! you can think what ever you want to about this awards show but quit getting on here and busting my ass about it. i don't blast you shit on your page about your comic, so why do you feel the need to come over here and spoil the good time everybody else is having? if you think you can do it better then do it. i know you have in the past but that was in the past. it's our show, our way, if we want to draw monkeys throwing shit at people that's what we will do. the only good thing you have had to say is when barry's webcomics review got a nom. that was just because you had worked on that, so don't tell me about ego trips! you don't like the judging, the music numbers, the catagories, not knowing we were doing it, except the nom for what you worked on. as far as being civil, why? i get it now, i should work really hard and have a lot of people like what i do and have done but listen to the one guy who has a problem with 99% of the award show. thank you but no, i will stick with the ones who like what they have seen here and they out number you.
Okaaay.
So the message from Roy is "Agree with everything I do or I will swear at you"?
I am not insulting you, I am suggesting things I would do to improve the awards next year.
I have no idea why you take everything I say as some kind of personal insult (and respond with personal insults against me.)
If I say there is something about your awards I don't like it doesn't mean I am calling you names or declaring the whole project a failure or trying to get at you. I am trying to help you by suggesting ways to improve next time.
This is the "comment" section, not the "Massage Roy's ego" section. You are not under any obligation to agree with me, but I think you will get more respect being civil about it.
We shall let them have the dd awards! we don't need it, for we have the 2012 comic awards!!!! if we did all of this in a few short weeks just imagine what we can do with a year to prep and plan! animation, music, the world is ours to take and we shall take it all! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
I LOVE THIS!!! IT'S CRAZY! IT'S WILD! I LOVE EVERY LITTLE COMMENT ON THIS PAGE! I EVEN LIKE THE HARKOVAST STUFF! THIS IS THE FIRE, THE HEAT, THE PASSION!!! This is what our little show is all about.... competition! yes! i made comments about wanting to out do the dd awards, and i wanted those working on the dd awards to have that same fire in the belly to outdo me! IT'S COMPETITION THAT MAKES US STRIVE TO BE BETTER, STRIVE TO GO FURTHER, STRIVE TO DO MORE! AFTER ALL IS THAT NOT THE AMERICAN WAY! I don't want to settle for just ok,i want to get everyone to step up thier game and bring the best A number one stuff to the table! if i have to stir some shit to get people to do that, well... GREAT! love me, hate me, it does not matter, the fact that we are really getting a great big ball of ideas rolling is what matters. remember to vote ARGON FOR PRESIDENT!
This is a creative production. We have NOT been on the DD Awards site making snarky comments. We have posted bulletins to our site just like anyone else. There are some issues with how the current DD Awards are done, and we're doing disservice to Niccea who is trying to handle an overwhelming task on her own with few volunteers with all this bickering. We do know how to promote and create a dynamic presentation, but clearly there is a fear we would take the DD Awards for ourselves. I assure you that will never happen. We're done here.
Pam, with all respect, I've seen nothing over in the DD forums, or on the judging forums, complaining about these awards, other than when Roy suggested that we drop the DD awards because these were all set to go. I've seen several comments from Roy and Man in Black talking about how these were going to "show up" the DD awards. If that's not Roy and MIB trying to compete with the DD awards, then I apologize.
What competition???? We didn't start this fight. But clearly the show will go on. If anyone finds a problem with that, it's their right. But persisting in coming to our site only for the purpose of ragging us will be tolerated only to a point.
I've no problem with these awards and the DD awards being separate. Both can co-exist, and there's no need for one to be subsumed into the other. I just think that the competition between the two (which I've only observed from Roy & co) is pointless.
I think Harkovast is right that running the DD awards the same way these were run (just a handful of judges, only one artist) would be met with a lot of resistance, including by me. But on the other hand, it is difficult to get enough volunteers for something as large the DD awards, especially when the forums suck and PQ's don't have notifications.
@harkovast, please with all due respect go fuck yourself! everybody else seems to like the concert feel to this awards show and all you have done is bitch about every thing except the one nominee that you have done work for! i respect your comic and the things you have done in the past( if not you would have never been a guest on the podcast) but quit bitching about every thing we have done here! if you hate all of this why do you come back again and again.the music numbers were put in here to add to the feel of an mtv type of awards show!of course you can't hear it, and if you don't know those songs you need to get the fuck off of your computer and go party! live life! have some motherfucking fun! that's what this has been all about! damn! some fucking people. i'm not taking any more shit over this! we will do it our way! end of the fucking story!!!!!!!!!!!
The issue this year has been that Niccea has had problems getting enough volunteers. If everyone loves getting involved, then they should. We can talk all day about community involvement and community voice, and we are always welcome to take suggestions, but not one of us judges here at the 2011 Comic Awards would consent to fall under someone else's direction. We're too headstrong and original for that. We're not falling under the Duck's yoke just yet. I have sent some messages out; they have not been read yet. Until then, the 2011 Comic Awards remains our very own.

Thanks, Niccea. I think the resolution of the big flaming hoo-doo in here today has assured that the Comic Awards will remain a separate competition.
