Cameos wouldn't make sense in this page, sorry! I had to recolor this blasted comic thrice! The power kept going out…on one side of the basement! And then my dad shut the computer off without saving my stuff first because it was making noises. Argh! Save first!
Plus I guess it helped me cool down a little. I almost wrote a very long, very angry rant
*starting here* about people who don't care to read these notes and just assume they know that Jhonen Vasquez is my art idol and I aspired to ape the very essnce of his style and the early archive are a @#$* mirror image of JTHM. And how I cannot possibly fathom how anyone gets that idea in their head other than the fact that CTV is referred to as “goth” styled and therefore I must read those kinds of comics, or someone mistook HIS STRIPEY PIRATE SHIRT for something JTHM wears. Or someone assumes you can only write violent comics if you read JTHM, completely ignoring the fact that Chuck Jones did violent cartoons,Harry Graham wrote violent poems and I also did a worse comic called Beck the Ferret for 9 years that had more pointless violence than you can shake a bloody stick at. And how it's obvious they don't care enough about what I say in these notes to even believe me when I say MORE THAN ONCE that I didn't even KNOW about that comic when I started CTV! If someone's gonna accuse me of ripping off a goth comic, for flippin' frogs sake pick one that at LEAST has the same proportions or at LEAST a similar cast, like freakin' Little Gloomy (the super scary monster show, being the “revamped style” she used to be bigger) or Scary Miss Mary who at least has beady shiney eyes. 2 comics I still haven't read but am aware of, at least it would make SENSE if someone compared Charby to that, rather than random-humored, big-headed stick figures like the ones in JTHM! Plus those who actually bothered to read my notes would know that I am aware about Hex's “almost similar” hairdo, I just wasn't when I designed the character OR the character that had the hairdo BEFORE Hex.*end*
Y'know, a rant like that, only much longer.
To all those that give me the consideration of reading what I say here, thank you. I'm sorry you had to see me get like this but it has me at my wits end right now. I'm usually very laid back about criticism but being taken for a style ape will simply not fly with me. Badly drawn violent attempts at anime about pirates does not equal a JTHM influence! How many times must I say it? Call the art crappy, it was, call it stupid or pointless! At least that is true! Don't make me link more junk at you to prove my point because I WILL upload every single bad thing I drew and show you what I used to draw and how I don't need no stinking goth comic to show me how to draw! Bill Watterson and Looney Tunes however, did give me inspiration.
Amy, Try not to worry too much about what other people think, or even say about CTV. Your comic is consistently in the most read stories list, which sows how much love and respect there is for CTV, and you.
Ultimately all that matters is that you enjoy doing the comic!
I wasn't that far into the coloring, just far enough to be a bit of a setback.I had the flats in but I lost some shading and background, but I hadn't realized it wasn't saved before I left it because I was feeling ill at the time. I didn't leave the house though, I went up for a nap T_T
honestly I tend to zone out when I work on these, I've been known to sit 8 hours straight without a break working on this comic in fact. The longest streak was 14 hours though. Your legs get reeeeal sore after that too.
I, personally, think you were incredibly mature about this. Me? I'd blow a fuse. ^^'' But you were calm, collected, and even wedged in a few jokes. Your ability to keep your head in situations like this astounds me. I not only envy that about you, but I also envy your awesome artwork and storyline. ;-; I'm uber sad that Biku's words hurt you, and I hope you're aware that every other reader on this page would do their best to heal that wound of yours. ^^- We're here for you always, Amy.
Also- awesome! Elf with a gun! You *cannot* get better than a hot elf with a gun!
Oh, and a comment about this page-if they hadn't done anything so suspicious as drawing a gun, it is highly unlikely that anything would have happened. For all she knew they could have been invited and just cross-dressers.
I just finished reading through all of your archives. I decided to save most of my comments until I caught up to increase the odds of you reading them(I just couldn't wait on Soylent Jerky. D@#$ that's funny). First, my rating is not in comparison to any other comics, just to how much of the potential you have shown that I see in the current strip. Second, all of my criticism is intended to be constructive criticism. I feel that all of your work is very good, and I think from your notes that you are open to comments that are not intended to be cruel or just plain idiotic. I used to live with a web-comic artist and author(cheshire-grin.net now defunct), so I know how obsessive you artists can be and how much work you put into every update, and how much vanishes when it gets resized.
Any similarity between your works and the works of another should be accepted as coincidental or tribute, not as theft, because it is virtually impossible to do anything creative without resembling someone else's work. There's just too much out there. For example, see White Wolf's suit of the movie Underworld, where they claimed credit for inventing werewolves, vampires, and the concept of both existing in the same world.
Most of the flaws in your prior comics that you complained about would be accepted by most readers as stylistic experimentation, which is necessarily never going to give you exactly what you want at first. Most of us wouldn't notice that you didn't get what you were after if you didn't mention it first. Your work is very good and greatly appreciated. Please keep it up, and send Munchie after the idiots.
I have done a mite of research on this JTHM and its creator--a Mr. J. Vasquez? Yeah, sure--Hex's and Nny's hair are similiar, but that's the only characterictic they shared that I could detect. Okay--so they're both psycho--but in totally different ways in my opinion. Totally different drawing styles. Totally different plots. So yeah, I agree that you should have nothing to worry about, Amelius!
Oh yeah, I also found out J. Vasquez is the producer of Invader ZIM--which is only the BEST CARTOON TO EVER COME ON. But that's to be saved for another time, yea?.
Do people still compare the two? How long will it take the idiots to see that they are absolutly nothing alike?
Don't kill Mye! You're just part crashers! It's not like you were planning on bombing the joint or spies for Roderick or something!
SIMS2FANATIC i sent you a PQ, please read it. Also i noticed that Drunk Duck sent us all a holiday greating card, in our Private Quack Inbox... Charby is in it! : )
i believe biku got lost in the pronouns of amy comment " Badly drawn violent attempts at anime ... Call the art crappy, it was, call it stupid or pointless! At least that is true!
Don't make me link more junk " could be easily mis-read out of context. but as Amy pointed out anything bad she said was about her older comics, not JTHM. btw, i've seen Biku on here for at least a few weeks, i like the FLCL icon : )... so anyway, lets all be happy again.
Good work as always Amelius
JTHM looks more like Invader Zim
then CTV but thats my opinion....
Biku what you said whas uncalled for as Amelius has alredy explaind
she not bashing any other comics
the only one childish is you for posting that coment
hey, i've been reading your comic for a pretty long time now. but i never actually signed up with drunk duck for a username so i never commented. i love your comics, and when i read it i didn't even think of jthm and i've been a long time reader of that as well. i don't think you should let what people have to say bring you down, especially when it isn't true. that biku guy doesn't know what he's talking about. i'll back you up if anyone tries to bash you ^_^
Biku: Be quiet! She didn't slag off JTHM (like she said).
Amelius: This is the first time I've seen Biku on the comments area. Don't worry about losing their respect if they don't even read what you wrote properly. You have a helluva lot of people who'd back you up! Am I right?!
Fabulous as always, Amy! Azalea is, as always, hilarious, and, as always, Mye is caught up in the middle again. I hope your donation button picks up. I made my donation a couple of days ago, and I will soon be making another one for this comic to.
Biku, I am not bashing his art.
I bashed my own art if you actually read the thing, all I said was it was random-humored (which it is, I didn't say that was bad) and the characters are like stick figures (an undeniable comparison there, it even says in the wiki entry) compared to the proportions of my characters. Did I say I hate his style anywhere in here? No, there wouldn't be a picture of me wearing a JTHM shirt in my fanart section if I did! I don't hate stick figures either!
I honestly don't see how contrasting the style was bashing his art! I love all styles of work and I am absolutely shattered that you would assume that of me. In fact I can barely write this in tears right now over what you just wrote.
No matter what I say I just end up looking like a self-centered child, I may as well not type anything in these notes anymore if I'm going to lose the respect of even one reader.
I did not insult his work in the least but what you said has left me wounded to the core.
I understand that you're upset at being accused of stealing somebody else's art style, but I really think your unfounded bashing of Vasquez's artwork is really uncalled for. That artist is not on here giving unfavorable comments to your artwork, so it isn't very fair to poke fun at his. I've actually, kind of lost some respect for you Amelius. Be fair to other people's artwork, especially when your own is criticized. It's much more graceful.
JTHM is really rather interesting, and CTV has it's positive points as well. Just chill out on the exchanging of insults. It's really getting rather childish.
Well Amy, anyone that has any sense can tell your style differs greatly from JTHM. Granted, the first black and white pages looked mildly similar, but that quickly changed, and now more than ever, you have a style that is unique and all your own.
(And stop saying your work is bad, because trust me, it isn't. Sometimes I see comics that are published and find myself thinking, 'CTV is way better than that, yet that is published?') (not to sound like I'm sucking up to you, that's not my intention at all.)
Amelius. I just read your rant. Sorry I didn't before my last post. All can say to your detractors is that there is nothing new under the sun. There is, however, the desire to take a fresh look at a topic. You have succeeded, wonderfully, in giving a new and entertaining twist to the venerable vampire genre. Keep up the great job you are doing.
